Can someone please tell us where August went? 😂

It's already been a MONTH since DOOR-E made its debut at Abilities Expo Houston.

And even crazier to think that a year prior, we were sharing ideas and early prototypes with the very same crowd.

It feels a little serendipitous that DOOR-E got to make its entrance at the same event.

From an idea to early prototypes to where we are now, we've come a long way. And we're even more excited for what's ahead. 💙

Yes, DOOR-E can handle carpet. 😁

One of the things we wanted to make sure of while developing DOOR-E was that it could work across the kinds of surfaces people actually have in their homes.

So naturally, we had to test it.

Good assistive technology doesn't just perform a function. It gives you more choices about how you want to live your life.

A recent study exploring electronic assistive technologies in the home put something really important into words: these tools can give people greater independence, choice, and control... but finding the right technology is also a very personal and evolving process.

Because the technology should fit the person, not the other way around.

People have different needs, routines, preferences, and ways of doing things. What works beautifully for one person might not work at all for someone else. And what works today might need to change tomorrow.

Good accessibility should make room for that.

So... how does DOOR-E actually work?

It's a question we hear a lot, and we get it. If you're looking at a little robot sitting at the bottom of a door, you probably want to know how the heck it got there. 😂

Step 1: Attach. Slide the adjustable clamp onto door and secure.
Step 2: Set. Place DOOR-E onto the mount extending from the clamp.
Step 3: Connect. Turn DOOR-E on and choose your preferred control method.

And you're ready to go!

No permanent installation. No complicated setup. Just more flexibility when it comes to opening a door.

One thing we've heard again and again from OTs and family members of people living with mobility challenges?

The importance of being able to operate DOOR-E remotely.

And we don't just mean from another room in the house. A connected DOOR-E can be operated from wherever you are... ensuring caregivers, family members, and support professionals have a way to help when they can't be there in person.

We've heard how much peace of mind that can bring, especially when getting stuck behind a closed door could become dangerous.

Sometimes independence means knowing help is there when you need it. That's one of the possibilities we built DOOR-E for. 💙

The best part of debuting DOOR-E? Seeing people's reactions to it. ☺️

Some reactions were overflowing with joy. Some were tearful with relief. And some people were simply… speechless. And honestly? As a team that had been counting the days to this moment, we felt every single reaction.

We met so many people who were eager to tell us where they could see DOOR-E making a difference in their own lives or in the lives of those they care for.

Those conversations, those little moments of surprise, and those "wait… it can do that?" reactions were better than we could have imagined.

This is exactly why we love getting DOOR-E out into the real world.
