Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research

Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research Period. In 1990, Laura Evans ended her 7th week in isolation during a bone marrow transplant to fight Stage III breast cancer. Aconcagua. At 22,841 feet, Mt.

Expedition Inspiration is fighting to find a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime so that we can save our daughters, mothers, brothers, sisters and all those we love from the disease. During her isolation, she dreamed of combining her two passions: mountain climbing and finding a cure for breast cancer. She imagined a team of breast cancer survivors and their supporters overcoming the challenges

of mountain climbing together to bring awareness and financial support to finding a cure for breast cancer. It would be a visible tribute to the courage of breast cancer survivors everywhere. To Laura, there was no more appropriate parallel between summiting one of the world's tallest peaks and fighting breast cancer. After recovery, Laura's dreams turned to action as she founded Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research in 1995 with Peter Whittaker. Laura set out to climb Argentina's Mt. Aconcagua is the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere. In February 1995, Laura and Peter Whittaker, premier international mountain guide and founder of Summits Adventure Travel, led a team of 17 breast cancer survivors to Aconcagua's summit. They raised awareness, research funds and hope for the breast cancer cause. From this initial effort, Expedition Inspiration has continued its mission to find breast cancer cures in our lifetime with hikes, climbs, an Annual Symposium, Young Investigator Awards and other fundraising events.

Meet Pamela. 💗

Thirty-six years ago, a routine mammogram saved Pamela's life.

After watching her mother battle breast cancer at just 56 years old, Pamela made herself a promise: she would never miss her annual mammogram. That promise changed everything.

In 1994, at just 42 years old, a routine screening led to her first breast cancer diagnosis.

What followed was a journey that lasted more than three decades. Pamela faced three separate breast cancer diagnoses, underwent eight lumpectomies, completed two seven-week rounds of daily radiation, and ultimately chose to have a double mastectomy in 2000. Years later, she completed breast reconstruction, only to undergo another complex seven-hour reconstructive surgery this summer to repair damage caused by radiation treatments from decades ago.

Through every chapter, one thing remained true: early detection saved her life.

Now, after spending decades climbing the mountain of breast cancer, Pamela has chosen to climb one by choice.

This September, she will join fellow breast cancer survivors with Expedition Inspiration to summit Galena Peak in Idaho. More than an 11,000-foot climb, this journey represents hope, resilience, and a commitment to creating a future where fewer women hear the words, "You have breast cancer."

Pamela is climbing for her mother, for her family and friends, for the next generation of daughters, and for every woman whose life has been touched by breast cancer. She is climbing to support research, improve early detection, and help fund survivorship programs that give women hope long after treatment ends.

After 36 years, Pamela's story is a powerful reminder that survivorship isn't measured in months or years. It's a lifelong journey marked by courage, perseverance, and an unwavering desire to give back.

We're honored to spotlight Pamela as she continues to inspire others with every step she takes.

Thirty-six years later... she's still climbing. 💗🏔️

Meet Jamie. 💗

On May 28, 2025, Jamie became one of the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. It was a day that changed her life forever and marked the beginning of a mountain she never expected to climb.

Now, after reaching her one-year cancer anniversary, Jamie is taking on a different kind of mountain.

This summer, she is joining Expedition Inspiration and a team of fellow breast cancer survivors to climb Galena Peak in Idaho, standing more than 11,000 feet above sea level. While the summit is the destination, the true purpose is even greater: raising funds for breast cancer research and supporting women walking their own survivorship journeys.

For Jamie, this climb is about every woman whose life has been touched by breast cancer.

"Breast cancer is more than a statistic. It's our mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, cousins, and friends."

Through Expedition Inspiration, every dollar raised helps fund groundbreaking breast cancer research while also providing survivors with opportunities to reconnect with their physical, emotional, and mental well-being through outdoor adventures and community.

Jamie is incredibly grateful for the love, prayers, and encouragement she has received throughout her cancer journey. As she trains for Galena Peak, she's turning gratitude into action, climbing with hope, courage, and determination to help create a future where fewer women hear the words, "You have breast cancer."

We're honored to spotlight Jamie as she takes on this incredible challenge. Every step she climbs is a step toward hope, healing, and a future without breast cancer.

Meet Molly. 💗

Molly knows what it means to do hard things.

After a breast cancer diagnosis, she endured a year of treatments followed by the often-overlooked journey of mental and emotional healing. While recovery continues, one thing has remained constant: the unwavering support of the people around her.

"There was no way out but through."

Throughout her journey, Molly held onto every letter, email, sticky note, photo, meal, flower delivery, and thoughtful surprise that reminded her she was never alone. On the hardest days, when simply making it from the bed to the couch felt like a victory, she looked ahead to this moment, believing she would one day be strong enough to climb a mountain.

Now, that day is here.

This summer, Molly is joining Expedition Inspiration to climb Galena Peak alongside an incredible community of breast cancer survivors. Together, they are climbing for a cure, honoring those who couldn't make the journey, and raising funds to support life-changing breast cancer research and survivorship programs.

As Molly beautifully says, "Your courage strengthens others, and others strengthen you." That truth carried her through cancer, and now she's paying it forward, one step at a time.

We're honored to celebrate Molly's courage, resilience, and determination as she takes on this incredible challenge. Every step she climbs is a reminder that hope is stronger when we climb together. 💗🏔️

Meet Therese. 💗⛰️

For someone who has always loved climbing mountains, exploring the world around her, and teaching science, this journey is incredibly fitting. What Therese never expected was that, during her first two years of retirement, she would become part of the very science she spent her career teaching about.

"I certainly didn't expect to be a science experiment the first two years of retirement, but hey, I'm thankful for the chemo, surgery, radiation, medications, and blood work. I am so appreciative of all the scientists and research being done for breast cancer."

After facing breast cancer herself, Therese has gained a deeper appreciation for the researchers, doctors, and scientists who dedicate their lives to advancing treatments and searching for a cure. She has experienced firsthand how important medical research is, and now she is using her own journey to give back.

Throughout her career, Therese loved teaching science and inspiring others to understand the world around them. Now, she is combining that passion with her love of climbing mountains as she joins Expedition Inspiration in their mission to raise money for breast cancer research.

This climb represents so much more than reaching the summit. It is about celebrating survival, honoring those who have fought this disease, remembering those we have lost, and supporting the scientists working toward a future where breast cancer no longer takes the lives of so many mothers, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, sisters, and daughters.

Therese never asked for financial help throughout her own treatment journey, but she feels strongly about supporting the research that made her care possible and could one day help save countless lives.

Since 1995, Expedition Inspiration has funded more than $1.8 million in breast cancer research grants, providing resources directly to researchers working toward new discoveries and better treatments. Their fundraising also supports young scientists who are dedicating their careers to finding a cure.

We are honored to share Therese’s story and cheer her on as she works toward the summit. Every donation, no matter the size, helps Therese reach her personal climb goal of $2,200 while supporting Expedition Inspiration’s overall goal of raising $30,000 for breast cancer research.

Join us in celebrating Therese’s courage, resilience, and determination as she climbs for hope, science, and a future without breast cancer. 💗⛰️
