Reflecting on this weekend at Float Conference 2026.

So many new connections. And getting to deepen ones I already had - especially with my NC float family. Finally got to meet the people behind our software, HelmBot in person - the ones who are always right there when we need support.

We visited Superior Float Tanks, where our own tanks are made. Met industry leaders. Sat in on workshops and heard the latest research.

But what's stuck with me most is what happened between sessions - real conversations, troubleshooting together, not just with other float center owners, but float enthusiasts, manufacturers, and the researchers leading the research behind this industry.

We learned together. Strategized. Dreamed a little about where this industry is headed. We received the newest research - where the science is landing on floating for stress, anxiety, sleep, and pain. Exciting to see the data catching up to what a lot of us have felt for years.

At one point, a group of us just started asking each other: when's the last time you actually floated? Not as owners - as people who need it too. That's kind of the vibe of this whole community. We believe in it enough to ask.

And we had fun too.

Sat in on one of the most moving talks of the conference today: Dr. Abby Morris on how floating can help firefighters carrying chronic trauma from the job.

Dr. Morris has spent years working with the IAFF Center of Excellence, treating first responders with PTSD, mood disorders, anxiety, and addiction - nearly 3,000 members and counting. Floatation-REST has become part of that treatment, with real results.

She talked about what chronic trauma does to the nervous system - stuck in fight-or-flight, unable to fully come down, even long after the call ends. Floating gives that system a chance to actually shift out of that state.

She shared this, from one of the firefighters they've treated:

"I have been a firefighter for almost 17 years and have struggled with PTSD, anxiety, and depression for the last 5 years. Initially I was nervous about doing the float because it meant I would be alone with my constantly racing and intrusive thoughts. I was nervous all the way up to getting in the tank. Shortly after, I was floating perfectly buoyant in the warm salt water. I felt peace and calm for the first time in several years." - Fire Fighter, Virginia Beach Fire Department

I missed my float last week. I could feel it.

I wasn't sleeping through the night, felt more anxious and irritable, and just didn't feel as grounded.

So today, I made time for myself and got back in the float room.

I did a 90-minute float, which I'm really glad I chose. It took me a little longer than usual to settle in, but once I did, I got the rest I had been needing.

I walked out feeling calmer, more grounded, and noticeably less anxious and irritable.

And somewhere along the way, something else happened: my mind got quiet enough to see a situation I'd been overthinking all week from a completely different perspective.

Funny what a little space can do.

Maybe that's why routine wellness matters. You don't always have to wait until you're completely depleted to take care of yourself.
