Communication can look different for every child. 💙 Whether your child uses words, gestures, visuals, signs, or another way to communicate, there are everyday opportunities to support their communication skills at home.

Here are 5 simple ways to get started:
1. Follow their interests
Join your child in activities they already enjoy and use those moments to encourage interaction.
2. Offer choices
Instead of asking an open-ended question, offer two options and give your child a chance to communicate their preference.
3. Give them time
Pause and give your child extra time to respond, without rushing to fill the silence.
4. Model communication
Use simple words, gestures, or visuals to show your child different ways they can communicate.
5. Celebrate every attempt
Communication is more than saying the “right” word. Recognize and encourage every effort to connect and express a need.

Small moments throughout the day can create meaningful opportunities for communication and connection.

Independence is built through everyday opportunities to practice, try, and grow. 💙

Here are 5 simple ways to encourage independence at home:
1. Offer choices
Give your child opportunities to make decisions throughout the day.
2. Break tasks into smaller steps
Make bigger tasks feel more manageable by taking them one step at a time.
3. Give them time to try
Allow space for your child to work through a task before stepping in.
4. Practice during everyday routines
Getting dressed, cleaning up, preparing a snack, and other daily routines can all be opportunities to build skills.
5. Celebrate the effort

Recognize the progress along the way, not just the finished result.
At Community Autism Services, we work alongside families to identify meaningful goals and build skills that support greater independence in everyday life.

Connection, curiosity, and community were at the heart of Sensory Cove: Care Under the Surface. 💙

Community Autism Services – Nashua was proud to partner with the Hudson Town Library to create a welcoming, sensory-friendly evening where children could explore, play, and create while families connected with local resources and learned more about the support available to them.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make Sensory Cove such a meaningful event. We loved connecting with so many families and hope to see you again soon!

Choosing the right ABA setting is an important decision—and every family’s needs look a little different. 💙

Whether therapy happens at home or in a center, the goal is the same: creating meaningful opportunities for children to learn, grow, and build skills that support their everyday lives.
