When an anxious thought shows up, arguing with it for 10 minutes can keep you stuck in the loop.

Try this instead: NOTICE → LABEL → MOVE. Catch the thought, label it as an anxious thought, then choose a physical action—walk, stretch, or try a simple acupressure practice.

The goal isn’t to force the thought away. It’s to stop turning every anxious thought into a debate and choose what you do next.

If you’re trying to understand what triggers your anxious stress, don’t just track what happened.

Track these 3 things: the trigger, your response, and your baseline. Your sleep, meals, caffeine, and existing pressure can add important context—and when you compare several anxious moments, patterns can become easier to spot.

You finished the work—but your brain and body still feel “ON.” Racing thoughts, tight shoulders, and difficulty settling can fit what I call a high-activation pattern of anxious stress.

Being productive isn’t the same as recovering. A simple acupressure practice can become a transition between doing and recovering when your day is over.

Nothing stressful is happening right now—so why do you still feel anxious?

Sometimes the better question isn’t “What’s wrong right now?” but “What did my recovery look like over the last 24 hours?” Poor sleep, caffeine, nonstop stimulation, and accumulated daily stress are factors worth paying attention to.

Stress and anxious feelings can feel similar—but there’s one simple question you can ask yourself:

Can you clearly name what you’re under pressure about?

Stress often has a recognizable source—work, money, family, or a deadline. But anxious feelings can continue even when there’s no obvious immediate pressure.

And anxious stress doesn’t always look the same:

⚡ High-Activation Pattern: racing thoughts, irritability, tension, difficulty relaxing.

🔋 Low-Reserve Pattern: worry with fatigue, feeling overwhelmed, poor concentration, needing reassurance.

Feeling anxious, tense, short of breath, or like your body just won’t settle down? Try this simple QRA™ routine while keeping your breathing slow and controlled.

Step 1: 3-3-3 Breathing

Breathe in for 3 seconds.
Hold for 3 seconds.
Breathe out for 3 seconds.

Continue this breathing pattern throughout the entire routine.

Step 2: Tap + Rake the Chest

Start by gently tapping up and down your breastbone in the center of your chest while continuing the 3-3-3 breathing.

Do this for at least 60 seconds.

Then use your fingertips to gently rake across the chest and between the ribs while continuing to breathe slowly.

Continue for another 60 seconds.

Step 3: Find Tender Areas on the Upper Arms

Use your hand like a claw and gently search around your upper arms, deltoids, biceps, and triceps for tender areas.

When you find one, apply firm but comfortable pressure and massage it for about 30 seconds while continuing the 3-3-3 breathing.

Repeat on the other arm as needed.

This routine is intended as an educational self-care practice for moments when you’re feeling anxious or physically wound up.

If anxious stress keeps showing up and you want to learn more about the everyday patterns and foundational factors Jimmy discusses, we created an Emotional Wellness Guidebook to walk you through them.

7 Places Your Body Holds Emotional Stress

Stress doesn’t always start with your thoughts. Sometimes you notice it first in your jaw, chest, stomach, hands, shoulders, legs—or in how hard it feels to let your whole body soften.

Try this quick body check: notice where you’re holding tension, soften that area, and take one slow breath.

Feeling Stressed or Anxious? Try This Chest Acupressure Point

If you're feeling stressed, tense, or anxious, try this simple chest acupressure technique. Locate Ren-17 along the center of your sternum, roughly where the ribs come together and about one inch upward. Gently explore up and down the sternum to find a tender spot.

Using your fingertips, massage the tender area in small circles or gently tap it. Take slow, deep breaths as you practice. This simple technique is designed to help your body relax and support a calm, rest-and-digest state.
