Not sure how long 20 seconds is? It's singing "Happy Birthday" twice. Or singing the chorus of several other (better) songs you probably know and regularly sing anyway. Swipe to choose yours and take a look at this proper handwashing checklist to make sure you're doing it right. ✋🏻🤚🏻

✔️ Use soap and clean water.
✔️ Lather up and be sure to cover all surfaces of your hands. Don't forget between your fingers and under your nails!
✔️ Scrub 'em good for at least 20 seconds (swipe to choose your song. May we suggest singing the chorus to the 1999 smash hit "No Scrubs" by TLC?)
✔️ Rinse under clean water.

1 in 7 adults around the world lives with a mental health condition, but that number doesn't account for the millions of people who are undiagnosed. Without access to care, many people won't have the tools and support they need to manage in their daily lives, and may reach a crisis point.

Part of addressing the disparities in access to care means we also recognize that mental health stigma and discrimination are significant barriers that keep people from getting the help they need.

How much of clinical competence comes down to sheer rotation luck?⚕️

In traditional medical training, exposure to rare, high-stakes cases is inherently uneven. One resident might see five aortic dissections in a year; another might not handle an obstetric emergency until they are the solo attending.

Cardiovascular disease affects people of all ages, races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic statuses. This year's theme of the World Health Organization's is non-communicable diseases, which include many of the chronic conditions providers treat every day. But patients with these conditions have more frequent interactions with the healthcare system, and that increases their risk of being harmed by mistakes, errors, delays, and poor communication.

Simulation is actually one of the tools that can help build a culture of awareness and accountability. Many of the harms that come to patients are preventable, but the systems have to be in place to catch them.

Sepsis is the body's overwhelming response to an infection. The early warning signs can be subtle, but sepsis moves fast and can be fatal within hours. Around the world, someone dies from sepsis every 2.8 seconds.

Warning signs of sepsis can include:
• Fever or low body temperature
• Warm, clammy skin
• Fast heart rate
• Low blood pressure
• Rapid breathing
• Rash (red, mottled)
• Confusion, disorientation
• Extreme pain
• A "feeling of impending doom” (like you’re going to die)
