🚨 Frederick & Firestone neighbors! Kerr-McGee wants to drill 12 new oil wells at the Nelson 28-35HZ facility just east of I-25 on Tipple Parkway, and this Tuesday you can ask them about it face-to-face.

📅 Tuesday, August 25 | 5:00–6:30pm
📍 Carbon Valley Regional Library, 7 Park Ave, Firestone, CO 80504

Kerr-McGee will be on site to answer questions about noise, water, air quality, and what a 12-well expansion means for a neighborhood that already has dozens of active wells within a mile. We'll be there too, come find us!

Can't make it Tuesday? You can still get on the public record through ECMC's comment portal. Link at corfc.org/ogdps/bayberry (also in our bio).

Show up. Ask the hard questions. Your neighborhood is worth it. 🧡

In materials filed with the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC) on August 28, 2026, Extraction Oil & Gas (a wholly owned subsidiary of SM Energy) pivoted its drilling plans for the Draco Oil and Gas Development Plan (OGDP) to avoid minerals owned by the Town of Erie, and to include an additional DSU south of the proposed pad, which lies entirely underneath the Front Range Landfill in Erie, Colorado.

The oil and gas industry has used deceptive tactics to exert outsized political control in Colorado. This strategy threatens our health and safety. The Union of Concerned Scientists documented four basic disinformation “plays” in the state. Colorado legislators and regulators have not done enough to hold the oil and gas industry accountable for its deception and political interference. We must continue pushing for Fossil fuel companies active in Colorado and their trade groups to stop spreading climate disinformation and pay their fair share of the climate, environmental, and public health costs of fossil fuel production and combustion.

Swipe to see what Kerr-McGee actually put in writing. 🦅

In their own Plain Language Summary for the Bayberry OGDP (the 12-well expansion proposed for the Nelson 28-35HZ pad here in Frederick) Kerr-McGee argues their drilling operation could bring "beneficial impacts for wildlife," including "temporary perches and wind blocks for avian species provided by production infrastructure."

That's just offensive. They're calling well pad equipment a wildlife amenity.

A drilling rig is not a bird sanctuary, and regulators shouldn't let narratives like this pass without pushback.

Is there a leaking well near your kid's school? 🏫

Old, low-producing marginal wells are scattered across Colorado's Front Range, often right next to homes, schools, and playgrounds. They leak. They contaminate soil and groundwater. And most people never give them a second thought.

Join us this Thursday, June 4 at 5:00pm to learn what we can do about these overlooked wells near Colorado schools.
