Smoking's not the social glue it's sold as. It's the opposite. 🚬🚫
A study of over 50,000 adults across 15 European countries, presented at the European Respiratory Society Congress, found that people who currently smoke report higher loneliness, and that loneliness rises faster over time, than in people who don't smoke. 📊
It's the latest in a long line of smoking myths worth dispelling. Allen Carr's Easyway has been doing exactly that for over 40 years: it's not a stress reliever (it's the cause of the anxiety it claims to relieve), it's not a personal choice freely made (it's an addiction, not a preference), and it's not something willpower alone can easily fix (which is why so many quit attempts fail).
Now add: it's not social either. Researchers believe declining mobility from smoking-related illness, plus fewer smoke-friendly spaces to share, cut people who smoke off from the social contact smoking is supposed to create. 🔍
Quitting doesn't shrink a person's social life. For most people, it's what gives it back. 🙌

Smoking is not social and leads to increased loneliness, according to a large Europe-wide study presented at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
