Today is National Asian American & Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

Compared to the national average, testing rates among Asian and Pacific Islander populations are frequently significantly lower. Common factors for this include language barriers and cultural stigma.

According to the NYCDOHMH 2024 HIV Surveillance Annual Report, Asian/Pacific Islander people made up just under 5% of new HIV diagnoses in New York City in 2024. By gender, API men made up 5.5% of new HIV diagnoses and 4.7% of new AIDS diagnoses; API women made up 3% of new HIV diagnoses; API TGNC folx made up 4.8% of new diagnoses.

Because the third Friday of June falls on Juneteenth, the RISE program’s regularly scheduled Support Group day will be moved to Thursday the 18th. But we will still be celebrating Juneteenth with games, Black Q***r trivia, and food!
