Iyengar yoga is a systematic approach to learning the classical 8-limbed practice of yoga as developed by B.K.S. Iyengar and his family in India. Iyengar yoga focuses on uniting the body, breath, and mind through attention to alignment both inner and outer and the therapeutic application of yoga asan

as (postures) to help the student deal with limitation, disease, injury and pain. Each class we learn about the body and its movements as a way of entering into deep inquiry of our inner experience. It is a safe practice that is appropriate for any body, regardless of age or condition.

“Sadhana” is the Sanskrit word for practice but it implies much more than just showing up on your mat. In these challenging times how do we learn to practice at home? How do we stay connected to ourselves and each other? And how can we quiet the mind to go within? In this series we will focus on how to develop a home practice and the major groups of poses, their names, and their benefits. We will learn basic level sequencing and how to tailor a sequence to fit your daily needs. We will explore introductory level yoga philosophy with a focus on incorporating our philosophy into our practice. Each meeting we will have time to practice, ask questions, and reflect on our progress. Weekly reading and homework assignments will help you practice independently creating your own deeper sense of sadhana. A perfect way to commit yourself to your practice!

Summer Intensives are on! Have you been craving a deeper exploration in your practice? Focused time to move, breathe, and just BE? Or maybe you have burning questions or therapeutic queries that need extra dedicated attention?Join Rebecca Weisman, Senior Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher for two separate weeks of yoga immersion at our beautiful studio in Burlington Vermont.🌞

Let’s get elemental. The theme this summer will be an exploration of the Mahabhutas (elements) of earth, water, fire, air, and space and how to experience these elements through our practice, leading to a more refined understanding of the body. Each day we will move progressively deeper into our sadhana(practice) through an energetic morning asana practice followed by an afternoon practice of restoratives, pranayama, philosophy, and therapeutics. Week 1 (July 20-23) is geared toward beginner and intermediate students, and Week 2 (August 3-6) is geared toward intermediate and advanced students.
🌎💧🔥💨💫

This year we will be join by Ayurvedic chef Elisabet der Nederlanden, who will offer an optional catered vegetarian lunch. 😋

Sign up for individual days, a full week, or both weeks for the ultimate yoga immersion.

As bodies and minds changes, so practice must change. Come learn with us about soothing practices for perimenopause. During this time of life symptoms can feel subtle, strange, and come and go for no apparent reason. Many people begin to experience a range of symptoms like headaches, stiffness, mood swings, and metabolism changes. While a well-rounded yoga practice can help with many of these, we will focus in this workhop on inversions for balancing hormones and mood swings, poses that rest the nervous system, and refinements to the feet, legs, and hips that aid in the support of the uterus and other organs.
💫
We will also be taking a look at Rita Keller’s fabulous new book Iyengar Yoga for Menopause. (Check out her inspiring words on the last slide). We highly recommend this book!
💫
***All genders are welcome! While the focus in our “Women’s Class” is on specific issues related to menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum and menopause, the poses and concepts introduced are good for everyone!***

“Every time I attend an Iyengar Yoga class, I leave feeling better, physically and mentally. My teacher creates an inclusive environment where people of all levels feel comfortable. Offering Iyengar Yoga on a free or donation basis makes a real difference, opening the door for more people to participate. It’s a valuable resource for the community.”
🕉️
“The free yoga offered by IYCVT in conjunction with the Johnson Public Library is something that my kids really enjoy, not only because there’s a community aspect, but because of the unique personal introspection and reflection that is present — my son is passionate about mastering his head stands and my daughter is determined to be able to do crow pose. Offering yoga to children is beneficial for all students to look at their skill, strength, and determination in a different way, challenging the road maps that are creating the people that they will ultimately be.”
🕉️
“Kara has been coming to my Burlington High School English Learner class monthly all school year. Many of the students in the class have been in the United States for two years or less. Students were initially hesitant to try yoga in a classroom setting because of its unfamiliarity but due to Kara’s incredible teaching of Iyengar Yoga and openness to the students, they began to look forward to yoga each month. It was incredible to see smiles on kids who always look so serious and also to watch them try something new with their bodies with the result being a much more calm and regulated classroom”
🕉️

If you love these beautiful student testimonials as much as we do, please join us this Saturday, 10:30-1:30 for our Annual Fundraiser to support our Scholarship and Community Engagement Fund. For the past six years, IYCVT has been raising funds, mostly from small donations made by committed students, to offer yoga for low or no cost in our community.

We’ve served so many different folks, from in-school and after school programs, therapy, postpartum, camps, workshops, yoga in the prison, and more!

If you can’t join but would like to make a donation please Venmo us أم دانيال

“Mountain torrents dislodge rocks and gouge out canyons, yet when the energy of the flowing water is stilled and balanced against that of the rocks, each loses its separate identity. The result is a lake, reflecting the serene beauty of the mountains around. Emotions are the torrents, while the steady intellect forms the rock. In kumbhaka both are evenly balanced and the soul is reflected in its pristine state.” BKS Iyengar, Light on Pranayama
⛲️
Tomorrow, April 26 join Rebecca for the Art of Kumbhaka in Pranayama. We will explore the art of retention for quieting the mind, withdrawing the senses, and experiencing a deep release of tension. Techniques will be given for beginners as well as advanced students.
⛲️
Sunday, 4/26
10-11:30am
This class is in-person and online and a recording will be made available automatically for members or for any student upon request.
