Our Autism Journey started in 2005 when Owen our oldest son was diagnosed with autism. Since his diagnosis we have tried many interventions and therapies but have never lost HOPE that one day Owen will live a independent purposeful fulfilling life. In the early days of living in Dubai, we found most people in didn’t like to talk about autism or how if effects their lives. To spread awareness and t

o encourage others to speak up, we starting sharing our life with autism in Dubai through this page. From the page I started a support group in Dubai which I still manage today. Now we are back in the USA and we are navigating our way through school and services in the USA. We believe the more we talk about Autism the more people will understand and accept my son and others who have different abilities for the amazing humans they are. We share the the good, bad and the never talked about so don't expect all of our stories to be filled with hopes and dreams for the future. If you have a concern or question you would like us to discuss please don't hesitate to send us a message, we will keep your identity confidential if you prefer. Disclaimer: We are not autism experts on a clinical level, we are parents and only sharing our parenting knowledge and what we have learned over the years.

Last week Owen attended Surf Camp, hosted by The Peyton Project at IndoJax Surf School, and we are overflowing with gratitude.

There is nothing quite like watching your child be entirely themselves, completely free of judgment. Owen’s instructor was incredible. He presumed competence from day one, pushing Owen a little more during each session. Owen even came incredibly close to standing up on his board! At one point Carl offered to pitch in, and the instructor politely declined—he and Owen had formed a special bond and were fully in their element together. It was beautiful to watch.

The joy wasn't just out on the water. It was also being around other families who just “get it” - If you know you know. To top it off, Owen got to spend rare quality time with a couple of friends from his guys' group. Because we live more than an hour away from each other, these moments don't happen often, making this week all the more special.

Please take some time to learn about The Peyton Project and donate if you can so they came help more families like ours.

Also, visit Indo Jax Surf Charities
To see all the wonderful things they do and to show them some love for supporting our community!

The Guys Group met with Mayor Glenn Jacobs on Friday to share their perspectives, experiences, and ideas for building a more inclusive community for nonspeakers!

We are so proud of these men for their leadership, advocacy, and willingness to share their experiences.

Thank you to Mayor Jacobs and his team for taking the time to listen.

Last week we went on a little hike with Chattanooga Therapeutic Recreation Services
Owen had a great time and enjoys being with this group.
He says, they really get it. I have to agree, they are kind, supportive and truly understand the meaning of presuming competence.

We are still so thrilled that you all came to learn about S2C. What was your main takeaway from the presentation?

Come and learn from the expert himself!

Owen had input on every slide and includes many of his fellow nonspeakers advice too. When take the time to attend, you will forever change the way you see Owen and other nonspeakers.
