Mold isnât always something you can see growing on a wallâźď¸
It can be hiding in a damp basement, crawlspace, around a leak, or anywhere moisture continues to build up. Mold releases spores into the environment, and some molds can also produce compounds called mycotoxins.
For some people, exposure to damp or moldy environments can contribute to symptoms like:
- nasal congestion
- coughing
- irritated eyes
- headaches
- OR worsening allergy and asthma symptoms.
- CHILDREN CAN BE IMPACTED THE MOST!!!
Mold exposure can also interact with the bodyâs inflammatory and immune responses, which is why some people seem much more sensitive to an environment than others.
If youâre constantly dealing with allergy-like symptoms and you feel worse in certain buildings or at home, your environment is worth looking at.
There are ways to evaluate the home for moisture and mold, and certain clinicians may also use testing, including urine mycotoxin testing, as one piece of the overall clinical picture.
Your environment matters just as much as what you put into your body.
