Put my all into this one… and while that doesn’t always mean I’ll win the match, it does mean I’ll win the day.
A former version of myself may not have posted a “loss”. But honestly, that’s not what it felt like. This was the best match I’ve had in a tournament. I love putting in the work, and find myself continuously more dedicated to the process. This was the most confident I’ve felt in my game… and actually knowing what I was trying to do in each moment, even if I couldn’t effect it against my opponent.
Yes, I want to win…but it’s not why I do this.
I do it to learn.
To face myself.
To grow.
I went into it as me vs. me - and the other “me” Yara (Alame) Racine. يارا showed up just as strong as I hoped someone would! She exposed the areas I want to focus on next. And everything I worked on these past few months expressed with vast improvement.
I’m especially grateful to my coaches Jay Valko , ONLINE JIU JITSU EXPERT 🚀 and José Mazariegos and their endless support and commitment to the communities they foster. I am a better human because of them.
I continue learning how to show up for myself in a way that extends well beyond the mats🙏❤️🔥

Put my all into this one… and while that doesn’t always mean I’ll win the match, it does mean I’ll win the day.

If you’ve ever wanted a soul crushing leg workout (because who doesn’t 😆)… Triphasic training will scratch that itch! Ive used this system with both amateur and professional athletes for more than a decade and seen wild shifts in explosive power.

sasha is a competitive jiu jitsu athlete getting ready for the Chicago Open - while there is so much more to say about the science, in this particular scenario, I want to highlight the dead-stop we’re demanding in each movement:
We’re forcing a complete halt to momentum; exaggerating a long hold in the bottom (loaded) position; then activating the most explosive possible exit out of that dead-stop.

This translates so well to BJJ. When an opponent has you pinned, it’s imperative to a) stay calm b) have stamina to call upon and c) the capacity to dig out power from absolutely NOTHING.

A few glimpses into last weekend… still finding the words. After 4 hours of journaling, I’m pressed up against the limitations of language. What could be a worthy expression of something this exquisite? How do I describe a human chrysalis? Lifetimes of repression moving through our bodies, pure essence downloading into our cells? I’m still trying. But for now, there’s this. A few images of the community that made it possible. Thank you Aya, thank you Kumankaya Healing Center, thank you Maya Colibri. I am always and forever humbled by the medicine. Here’s to the unshakeable commitment of growing into our hearts and showing back up for the world🙏
