This weekend, CWHC will be tabling at two different events across Chicago! Come say hi if you see us!

-Stop by our booth at Andersonville Chamber of Commerce's Midsommarfest near Alamo Shoes to hear about our services, take home CHWC merch, and play health care trivia roulette! We will be there from 12-9pm, Saturday and Sunday.
-Catch us at the Women Unite Mutual Aid Fair on Sunday from 9:30-3pm at Movement on Montrose! Come learn about how you can get involved with CWHC and other community orgs.

Like a tree in a thriving forest ecosystem, CWHC grows in community. At this year’s annual event, Canopy of Care, you’ll hear from three partner organizations about how we nurture networks of care together.

CWHC is proud to partner with Chicago Abortion Fund! CAF is the largest abortion fund in the country and assists over 20,000 callers a year in accessing the abortion support they want, need, and deserve. CAF offers comprehensive wraparound support and services before, during, and after abortion care through CAF's helpline and other programs.

We asked CAF what our Canopy of Care makes possible together:
"The Chicago Abortion Fund assists people seeking critical healthcare in a way that centers autonomy and dignity. Using an individualized case management approach, CAF staff and volunteers support people in accessing their care by paying for appointment costs and figuring out travel logistics. This support doesn’t end when someone arrives at their appointment— through deepened partnerships with trusted clinics in Illinois, CAF and clinics build an ecosystem together that patients can trust and more easily navigate in an already remarkably confusing landscape. Through partnerships with CWHC, other clinics will soon have doula services available to deepen the support patients have access to. This couldn't be possible without collaboration and trust!"

(Image description: a photo of two people hugging over a duotone teal background with a tree bark texture. Above the people is white text that reads: "Community partners that make us all stronger." Above the text is the Chicago Abortion Fund logo, a black-and-white hand-drawn banner with the organization name. To the right is the Canopy of Care logo, which features a colorful block print of a teal tree with the text "Chicago Women's Health Center Canopy of Care" below.)

CWHC's Canopy of Care is excited to introduce a member of our host committee, Betsy Rubinstein (she/her)! You're invited to join Betsy and other CWHC community members on July 15th to hear from other like-valued organizations, grab a bite, drink, and participate in our raffle!

Betsy is a former Board Member and ongoing, valued supporter of CWHC's work. She cares deeply about access to quality, affordable healthcare for women, trans people, and young people and we are grateful for her interested in helping CWHC services, clients, and students thrive. We asked Betsy how her communities benefit from CWHC's Canopy of Care:

"As a q***r person, I know that CWHC is a safe place for my community, and one that has also helped many of my friends start families. As a parent, I know how important that has been to my friends and community."

Thank you, Betsy, for your ongoing partnership! We are so grateful to have you in our Canopy of Care.

Sliding scale tickets are still on sale at www.chicagowomenshealthcenter.org/canopy-of-care.

CWHC is thrilled to introduce our new voice coach with our Gender Affirming Voice Coaching program, Rosalynde Kasper (she/her)! Rosalynde's support of clients will increase the number of trans, non-binary, and gender expansive folks able to receive affordable voice services both in Chicago and beyond.

To help our community get to know Rosalynde, we asked her a few questions about her work:

What drew you to work at CWHC?
"CWHC’s services helped me on my journey and this is my way of paying it forward. I also believe, firmly, that cost should not be a barrier to one’s care, and CWHC shares this value. At the end of the day, all we have is each other; our community. CWHC is a part of that, and I’m proud to be a part of CWHC!"

What is something you wish people knew about gender affirming voice coaching?
"Everyone can experience euphoria with their voice. I know how hard it can be, and that, right now, that goal might seem so distant as to feel nigh impossible, but anyone can uncover a voice that is affirming. There’s no trick, no special talents needed, just the will to explore and some time to develop new skills with your voice."

To learn more about CWHC's Voice Coaching services and schedule an appointment, visit www.chicagowomenshealthcenter.org/voice-coaching.

CWHC is thrilled to introduce our Nurse Practitioner, Shelby Sarguru (she/her)! In the year-plus since Shelby has been providing care at CWHC, she has been crucial in expanding the amount of clients we can serve. We are so grateful to have her warmth and expertise on the team.

To help our community get to know Shelby, we asked her a few questions about her work:

What is your favorite thing about working in Chicago?
"I appreciate the complex tapestry of this beautiful city and the people who call it home: hard-working, tough, deeply kind people. Within a city impacted by segregation and economic inequity, I appreciate that our clinic is nestled in Uptown, a neighborhood with streets that are brimming with people with diverse racial, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. It’s an honor to serve folks from different walks of life."

How would you describe your approach to care?
"The roots and values of the CWHC collective have inspired my approach to client-centered care. CWHC has helped shape my lens to stem from a place of: “Who is a better expert about one’s body, health, and life experiences… than the person themself?” I approach the art of medicine with mutual curiosity with clients and co-workers with whom I collaborate with. My role in delivering revolutionary health care is to work daily to dismantle gatekeeping and paternalistic power differentials. I do so by playing a supportive role—listening, holding, informing, and helping to draw out the client’s voice and trust in themself."
