What if a brand’s heritage wasn’t just part of its story, but part of the space itself?
At LANG, a new boutique at ROW DTLA in Los Angeles, Studio Paul Chan brings the brand’s cultural ties to life through the physical environment.
One detail in particular makes that connection impossible to miss.
Suspended above a curved bench is a four-tier installation of paper lanterns painted with Cantonese sayings. Rather than treating heritage as something to explain through signage or graphics, the installation gives it a physical presence within the store.
It becomes part of what shoppers see, move beneath and experience as they navigate the space.
Throughout LANG, references to Hong Kong and Los Angeles continue that conversation, showing how cultural identity can become a design language of its own.
For retailers, it’s an interesting lesson in storytelling. Sometimes the details that say the most about a brand aren’t the ones with its name on them. They’re the ones that show you where it comes from.
