WE ALL WE GOT! 💪🏽
It’s Black Breastfeeding Week, and this year’s theme, We All We Got: 15 Years of Community, Care, and Collective Power — feels so exciting for me.
As an IBCLC, I spend a lot of time talking about the importance of support, education, and representation in breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding isn’t always just about knowing what to do. Sometimes it’s about having somebody say, “Girl, you’re doing fine. Keep going.”
It’s about the person who answers the late-night question.
The mama who shares what worked for her.
The provider who actually listens.
The lactation professional who sees you beyond your feeding plan.
The family member who makes sure you ate.
The friend who reminds you that you don’t have to figure it all out alone.
We really are all we got.
And when we show up for Black mothers, we’re not just supporting breastfeeding; we’re supporting Black babies, Black families, Black communities, and the generations that come after us.
So this week, I’m celebrating the Black mothers who are nursing, pumping, combo feeding, expressing, supplementing, exclusively pumping, weaning, relactating, or simply doing the best they can. I’m celebrating me.
And I’m celebrating the village. Sometimes the reason a mother makes it another day is because somebody reminded her that she doesn’t have to do it by herself. 🤎💜
Happy Black Breastfeeding Week. 💜🤎
