Goetta wants to know, do you carry narcan?

It's her third birthday! She celebrated today by helping give 3 minute narcan trainings and passing out over 100 doses of Narcan to UC Students this afternoon! She also received many, many birthday scritches! Tell Goetta happy birthday in the comments! 🎂🎉🥳

In light of the recent overdoses on college campuses, we wanted to make sure that students had the tools, knowledge, and confidence they needed to help someone in an opioid emergency.

Remember: Using intranasal narcan is easy! It goes up the nose, and you pop the button. Its absorbed by the small blood vessels in the nose, and is able to rapidly get to the opioid receptors in the brain. It blocks these receptors, reversing the overdose. If someone is not experiencing an opioid related emergency, it will not do anything. So don't hesitate! If you arent sure if the person has used opiates, it wont hurt them to use narcan, and it may save their life! If it is safe to do so, after you administer the narcan we encourage calling 911. The synthetic opiates that have been seen on college campuses are strong, and the narcan can wear off, sending them back into respiratory depression. Its important to activate emergency response as quickly as possible to provide the individual with follow up care.

You can reach out to our friends at Harm Reduction Ohio through the simple form on their website and they will send you two doses anywhere in the state of Ohio, totally free of charge! We also always have some to share at any event you see our crew at, just ask!

This marks a full year of showing up for our neighbors and offering care for neighbors, by neighbors with no barriers to access.

A full year of building relationships, providing hope and relief, and inspiring confidence in individuals to advocate for themselves.

A year of skill sharing with community members, building our capacity to care for ourselves and each other.

They died in the early 2000s from he**in overdose, Narcan wasn’t available like it is today, or was harm reduction.

Today in their honor we tabled at an overdoseawarenessday event in Cincinnati and gave out testing strips and Narcan.

Today was our 10th Clinic and free store at Piatt park!

Often in this work, it comes with tremendous amount of heartbreak. It’s upsetting to see our fellow humans systematically dehumanized and mistreated.

During our after clinic debrief we all had a similar statement, we love this work, we wish we had all of the resources in the world to help our neighbors to the fullest potential.

It’s easy to think that little actions don’t matter, but you’d be surprised what a smile, a hello, a “how are you” can make someone who has been largely ignored by society feel better.

Help out your neighbors in anyway you can. You matter, your actions matter and together we can make our world brighter.
