💪 Feeling sore after physical therapy? Don’t panic!
If you’re starting a new exercise program or doing movements your body isn’t used to, you may experience delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). This is the muscle soreness or stiffness that can show up several hours after exercise and is often most noticeable 1–2 days later.
In physical therapy, we’re often asking your body to work in new ways, build strength, improve mobility, or get back to activities you haven’t done in a while. A little soreness afterward can be a normal part of the process. It doesn’t necessarily mean you hurt yourself or that something is wrong.
✅ Mild muscle soreness or stiffness = often normal
✅ Usually improves within a few days
✅ Staying gently active and following your therapist’s recommendations can help
That said, you know your body best! If your pain is severe, getting worse, lasts longer than expected, or just doesn’t feel right, reach out to your physical therapist. We’re always happy to talk through what you’re experiencing and make sure you’re on the right track.
A little soreness can be part of getting stronger. 💪 Keep moving, keep communicating, and trust the process!
