The 3 movements every adult over 40 should be able to do without a second thought 👇 (and the everyday moments they protect)

1️⃣ Carry something heavy across the room.
Groceries, luggage, the laundry basket, a grandkid. Coaches call it a loaded carry — real-world strength you use literally every day.

2️⃣ Stand up from a seated position — without your hands.
Off the couch, out of a low chair, up off the floor. The humble sit-to-stand quietly predicts how independent you stay for decades.

3️⃣ Pick something up off the floor.
A dropped bag, a toddler, a 40-lb sack of dog food. Done with a strong hip hinge, it’s the difference between “I’ve got it” and a wrecked back.

Notice none of these are about how you look. They’re about staying strong enough to do the things you love — at 50, 60, 70 and beyond — without thinking twice.

That’s what we actually coach. Not workouts for the sake of workouts — strength that shows up in your real life. Since 2003.

There's a phrase we hear all the time at the end of a workout...usually said quietly, keys in hand, halfway out the door:
"I'm glad I came."

Simple words. But they almost always mean more than they sound.

They mean I almost skipped today. I was tired. I talked myself out of it twice. I walked in carrying stress I could feel in my shoulders, my neck, my chest, my mind.
Fitness doesn't magically solve everything we carry. It doesn't erase grief, uncertainty, or the pressure of holding it all together. But movement creates an opportunity...a few minutes where the noise fades just enough to remind you that you're still capable, still strong, still able to do hard things.

Most people don't walk in talking about mental health. We talk about low energy, a stiff back, getting back on track. But sometimes what we really need is a place to breathe again.
That's why showing up matters so much. Not because one workout changes your life...but because showing up can change your day. And that day can change your week.
So if you've been in a heavy season: the next time you don't feel like coming in, come anyway. Then notice how you feel walking out.

These meds work...the weight comes off. But a big chunk of that loss (research puts it at 25–40%) can come from muscle, not just fat. And once you're past 40, muscle is what protects your metabolism, your bones, your strength, and your ability to stay independent as you age.

Here's the encouraging part: you can keep your muscle while the medication does its job. It comes down to two things...strength training a couple times a week, and getting enough protein.

That's the whole reason BCS Fitness exists. We've coached busy adults 40+ right here in Bryan–College Station since 2003 ...small-group, coach-led strength built around your body. Not a crowded room. Not a bootcamp.
