Action Alert: Help Protect Medicaid

A proposed federal rule could make it harder for people with disabilities to keep their Medicaid coverage—not because they no longer qualify, but because of increased paperwork and new barriers to proving they are exempt from work requirements.

For many people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Medicaid provides access to the health care and supports they rely on every day. No one should lose that coverage because of unnecessary administrative hurdles.

The federal government is accepting public comments, but the deadline to submit feedback is July 31.

Make your voice heard. Tell the government to protect people with disabilities, reduce unnecessary paperwork barriers, and ensure eligible individuals don't lose coverage.

Submit your public comment by July 31: https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F4wmhKIk%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExb0ZObnRLcUg0WFZDR05hS3NydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR4yYqVURP2cLvEqSbvtPnEQWxvbeAZbh1VYFqeSm_AVRkO6nD2kUqculh6OjQ_aem_FDGo6wMNauzgXJrXha0Qag&h=AUCSRJOEDK0n9eSu0rEEWoB_UEP9T3MeZ2r-OvjI0qb10lyy_YqaYwkb4DVxFsLo4dLZWKuDK6IFcazo2GTfZcdG0qOU9Dtv9SeUDQdUZiKKB-PC5aQMhQNO0HlMV4ncFbAZEo2PKPo5UIf5XrcUdA&__tn__=-UK-R&c[0]=AUDODLBAwrM806cvI66JxhbOUKf3d1D1F5ggzYHCSnJValOS1uxq7Gj6RjJxofNom3AfjNoKM9swn0Pb-HA5vTrSjPTjYcIBPXdhFySwQPjyn5aeo5Om4t1PQZa9QR12u-S-TKXZJlr24PlStuHvrF4PZVmOm9Gxqa0mVL1O1QfAM9MRg4fM09z2SDC2W2m_5ZeqCFCDv94sQPQVpHUGUas4-w

💙 Celebrating Disability Pride Month

This July, we proudly recognize Disability Pride Month—a time to celebrate the diversity, strength, and individuality of people with disabilities.

Disability Pride Month is about embracing identity, promoting inclusion, and recognizing that every person has unique talents, perspectives, and contributions that enrich our communities. It is also an opportunity to continue advocating for accessibility, acceptance, and equal opportunities for all.

This month and every month, we remain committed to creating communities where everyone is welcomed, valued, and empowered to be their authentic selves.

Together, let's celebrate abilities, embrace differences, and continue building a more inclusive future.

Happy Disability Pride Month! 🌈

🌴 Sheila recently enjoyed a wonderful road trip to San Diego, California, with her family! During the trip, she had the opportunity to explore the beautiful coastal area, create lasting memories, and spend quality time with her brother.

We love seeing the people we support enjoying meaningful experiences, strengthening family connections, and making memories that will last a lifetime. ❤️ Sheila—we're so glad you had such a wonderful adventure!

Join The Arc Pikes Peak Region at the First & Main Town Center Summer Concert Series on July 3, July 10, and July 17 for three evenings of live music, community, and inclusion.

We'll be bringing our Universal Mobile Changing Station, providing access to an adult-sized, automatic changing table for people with disabilities and anyone who needs one. For many individuals and families, having access to this resource can make the difference between attending a community event or staying home. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy summer events with dignity, comfort, and independence.

Whether you're coming to enjoy the music, celebrate Disability Pride, or support accessibility in our community, we'd love to see you there.

As an added bonus, 100% of beverage sales during all three concerts will directly benefit The Arc Pikes Peak Region! Every drink purchased helps us continue promoting and protecting the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities while expanding accessibility throughout the Pikes Peak region.

📅 Concert Dates: July 3, July 10 & July 17
⏰ Time: 5:00–7:00 PM
📍 Location: First & Main Town Center

Bring your family, invite your friends, and help us build a more inclusive community—one concert at a time.

Tomorrow we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that marks freedom, perseverance, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Since then, Juneteenth has become a time to honor history, celebrate culture, and reflect on the values of freedom and opportunity for all.

At Common Roots, we are committed to building communities where every person is respected, valued, and included. We recognize that diversity strengthens our communities and that everyone deserves the opportunity to live, work, and thrive with dignity.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we encourage reflection, learning, and appreciation for the many individuals whose courage and perseverance have helped shape our nation.

Happy Juneteenth!

For more than 25 years, the Olmstead decision has affirmed a fundamental right: people with disabilities deserve to live, work, and thrive in their communities—not in institutions.

At The Arc Pikes Peak Region, we see every day how Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) help make that right a reality. These services provide critical supports that allow people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live independently, build relationships, pursue employment, and participate fully in community life.

Recent Medicaid cuts and proposed state-level changes could put access to these essential services at risk, threatening the progress made since Olmstead became law.

People with disabilities belong in their communities. Join us in urging Congress to protect Medicaid HCBS and preserve the supports that make community living possible.
