Sometimes we just need a bit of proprioceptive feedback to feel supported in our bodies! This is why I love because it gives that subtle cue to the nervous system! Today I’m using it for support for the wrist in a patient that has instability and frequent wrist pain! Using Kinesiotape can be really beneficial for patients who don’t quite need full immobilization but do have pain with movement! When we can support the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system, we can see great improvement!

I love playing Pokopia on my but my hands fatigue reallllly quickly. One thing that has really helped the endurance of my hands is wearing my for not only positioning to supporting the endurance of using my hands! My right hand is working really hard to hold onto the game console while my left hand is able to use the grip pattern because of the better position of my joints!

I’m using a swan neck on my index finger DIP joint and a swan next on the IP joint of my thumb. These 2 1/2 buddy is really helpful for supporting the small finger and my endurance for sustained holding!

If you love gaming but are limited by pain, keep following along as I share additional tools and techniques to improve our hand health!!

Hand therapist treat a wide range of diagnosis; surgical procedures to non-surgical injuries. However my passion really comes to light when working with the hypermobile community and finding ways to support one’s ability to feel safe doing the things they love. Not only are we working with the musculoskeletal system, but we are also working with the nervous system and how we can be understand where our bodies are at in space. Safety and healing go hand in hand; when our bodies feel safe, they gain the capacity to learn, adapt, and change. Being a hand therapist and Occupational Therapist allows me to connect with so many people and go on a journey with each of them, and I’m forever thankful.

As always, shoutout to my pal for capturing these moments.

Are you someone who has thumb pain, hand pain or forearm pain? Have you ever had tendinitis in your forearm? Do you position your thumb like this when weight bearing on your hand?

As a hand therapist, I’m really passionate about how we can keep our hands safe!! This position can be really natural and automatic for a lot of people! It’s not ALWAYS bad but when we do it repeatedly and with load (think going from sitting to standing), overtime it can add a lot of stress to the small joints of the thumb. Adding stress to these small joints can lead to small irritations to the tendons! Let’s keep our hands safe and feeling good!!

As I continue to blend the benefits of OT, hand therapy, and Craniosacral Therapy, I am more aware of how powerful these practices can be for the communities. The blend of these three modalities has come to life over the past few years and I continue to recognize the overlap! When we can support the whole person, their whole environment, and all their occupations in life (not just a job but all the things one does), we meet the person where they are and help them get to where they are going.

Treating the musculoskeletal system is important, but if we aren’t look at the nervous system and its reactions to its environment, we are missing a big piece of the puzzle! Let’s work as providers to see each person wholly, with open minds, and a desire to help them connect the dots!

One of my favorite things to work on with clients is understanding how the body recognizes and receives feedback. Sometimes a hypermobile body has created compensatory strategies because of joint instability. When we slow down, use our senses, and build awareness in the body, we can create better pathways or recruitment.

I am constantly reminded for the beauty of Craniosacral therapy. Am I feel lucky to be able to share this with so many others. This offering has shaped me and created a container for others to explore the inner worlds we all have inside. If you are looking for something different, a way to connect differently, a way to listen differently, I’d love to share more about this practice with you.

I am trying a new version of the for several patients who have stated that due to belly discomfort they didn’t feel like it would help them. So I wanted to see if I could find a way of utilizing the body braid without crossing the abdomen, and this was very comfortable so I thought I would share here!!

Have you tried to wear the body braid in different ways and had success?? Share your tips below.!!
