Carry On Therapy Presents: Teach it Tuesdays 👩‍🏫

📰This week's topic: The ABC Model of Behavior

Every behavior has a before, a during, and an after — in ABA we call that the ABCs: Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequence. The antecedent is what happens right before a behavior, like a request being made or a loud sound starting. The behavior is what your child actually does. The consequence is what happens immediately after, which tells your child's brain whether to do it again. Learning to spot the ABCs helps you understand why your child does what they do. This is the foundation of almost everything else in ABA.
