BAD ART Thursday and Reading the Body Saturday both need registrations by Tuesday to run. Here’s why you don't want to miss them.

Dear STRŌB Community,

We have two very different, very special classes next week, and both need your attention by Tuesday evening. Without a few more of you, neither can run. So if you had been thinking about it, now's the time to register.

🎨 Thursday, October 15 · BAD ART with Amenah 🎨
6-9pm · $175 · Registration deadline Tuesday evening

What would you create if it didn’t have to be good?

Amenah Arman, LGPC, is a licensed therapist, artist, and Palestinian Muslim woman who created BAD ART, a therapeutic approach that uses creative expression, imperfections and all, to help people get unstuck. She’s bringing it to STRŌB for a three-hour, after-hours, mostly-silent creative retreat.

You don’t have to consider yourself an artist. You don’t need an idea. You just need to be curious.

The evening moves through three parts: meet you (slow down, notice what you’re drawn toward), meet the block (get curious about perfectionism, fear, and the voices that interrupt the creative process), and make anyway. No critique. No requirement that the thing be good.

You may leave with something beautiful. You may leave with something terrible. Either way, you made something.

Includes materials, meditation and journaling time, aromatherapy support for the work, and $10 in shop credit to carry something home.

Bring your worst idea. We mean that as a compliment.

Ateeka (Anne) Contee, LCPC is a licensed trauma therapist and Certified Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor who has spent over two decades integrating Western psychology with the Eastern healing traditions she grew up with in India. She’s bringing all of it to STRŌB for an afternoon that reads your constitution, not just what type you are, but how it shows up in your stress, your body, your patterns.

The afternoon includes education on Ayurveda and doshas, a guided Nadi Pariksha (hands-on pulse diagnosis with Ateeka), support in mapping your own constitution, and guidance on lifestyle habits that align with nature. Plus $10 shop credit for anything you take home.

When Olivia is in her happy place, it gets pretty wild 🤪 We never know what she’s gonna say when she gets excited making fine fragrances. We can’t get her to shut up about the quality of her materials and if we have to hear about the incredible “drydown” on her new Sandalwood co2 one more time we’re gonna need a cookie.

Love scent? Want to work with her? She’s got appointments for both bespoke fragrances and our signature custom, guided fragrance creation package available. You’ll explore a whole new and delightful world through her nose.

Last year we couldn't celebrate our 5th birthday with cake while a family we love was hungry. This year, we're sharing again. 💚

STRŌB turns 6 on Friday, October 16th. And just like last year, we're spending our birthday the way our late co-founder Kat taught us to: with love and abundance. Having enough is possible for everyone.

Mohammed, our Moh, the son of the Elfattah family who writes to Olivia from Gaza, is getting married on October 17th. In the middle of displacement, in the middle of a war that has taken nearly everything, he is choosing love. But Moh currently sleeps in the family car because there is no dry space in the tent. In 10 days he'll be a husband, and his wife will need a place to sleep. Not in a car.

So we're throwing a party. And we're asking you to come.

🎂 STRŌB's 6th Birthday Bake-Off
Friday, October 16th · 6:30–8pm

A night of baked goods, tasting, voting, and community. All proceeds go directly to the Elfattah family to help buy Moh and his family of 24 (mostly children) a tent. Plus 15% of everything the shop makes that evening goes to them too.

🧑‍🍳 Bakers: Bring one recipe of whatever your heart is proudest of. Arrive 5:45–6:15pm. No entry fee, just pre-register. Prizes: 1st place gets a $40 STRŌB gift card, 2nd place gets a goodie bag.

🫖 Tasters: $10 suggested donation, give what you can. Sample everything on the table and vote for your favorites. Winners announced at 7:45pm.

👶 Kids welcome. Art table set up for little ones.
🛍️ Shop is open all evening. 15% of sales go to the Elfattahs.

We're sharing joy and treats and community together, and the end result of our good time will be food and a home for a family who is just like us. That's who we are. That's how we celebrate.

Come celebrate with us. 🌿

Last year we couldn't celebrate our 5th with cake while a family we love was hungry. This year, we're sharing again.

Dear STRŌB Community,

STRŌB turns 6 on Friday, October 16, and we're spending our birthday the same way we spent our 5th: sharing it.

Here's why.

Last year, as we approached our 5th birthday, we had just begun communicating with a family in Gaza, the Elfattahs, who had become dear to us. Our birthday was coming up. And we found we couldn't quite bring ourselves to celebrate a milestone with cake and treats while a family we had come to love was hungry.

So we did what we do.

Our co-founders built STRŌB on five guiding principles, authored by our late co-founder Risikat Okedeyi, and two of them are love and abundance. The abundance one goes: we believe in abundance. Having enough is possible for everyone. So last year, we turned our 5th birthday into a chance to share. We gathered, we celebrated, and the proceeds went to the Elfattahs. It felt exactly right.

This year, we're doing it again. And the stakes are higher.

🫖 Moh is Getting Married 🫖

Mohammed, our Moh, the son of the Elfattah family who writes to Olivia from Gaza, is marrying his betrothed on October 17th, which just happens to be the day after our birthday. In the middle of displacement, in the middle of a war that has taken nearly everything, he is choosing love. He chooses joy.

But Moh currently sleeps in the family car outside the tent because there is no dry space for him inside. In 10 days, he will be a husband, and his new wife will need a place to sleep. Not in a car.

So we're throwing a party. And we're asking you to come.

🎂 The STRŌB 6th Birthday Bake-Off 🎂

Friday, October 16 · 6:30-8pm
Winners announced at 7:45

🧑‍🍳 For Bakers 🧑‍🍳

Bring one recipe of whatever your heart is proudest of. A cake. A dozen cupcakes. 24 cookies. A loaf of bread. Something you love making, enough to be judged and tasted by the room.

Arrive between 5:45 and 6:15pm so we can assign your number, cut it, plate it, and set the table. No entry fee for bakers, just bring your dish and your name. Please pre-register.

👶 Kids Welcome 👶

We'll have an art table set up for kids (and any adult who wants to join them) to make take-home autumn cards. Bring the whole family.

🛒 Shop While You're Here 🛒

The shop is open all evening with STRŌB's favorite playlist from the last 6 years playing throughout. 15% of everything the shop takes in that night goes to the Elfattahs. If you've been meaning to grab something, Steeped in Hope, a candle, a crystal, a bag of seasonal tea, that something is also helping Moh and his wife begin their life together with a dry place to sleep, safe together with their family.

💚 Here's What We Believe 💚

We're sharing joy and treats and community together, and the end result of our good time will be food and a home for a family of people who are just like us.

That's who we are. That's how we celebrate. And we hope you'll celebrate with us.

With so much love,

Olivia, Sean & the STRŌB Family 🌿✨

🎨 Thursday, October 15: BAD ART with Amenah 🎨
Thursday, October 15 · 6-9pm · $175

This one's special, and we want to introduce it properly.

Amenah Arman, LGPC, NCC, is a licensed therapist, artist, and Palestinian Muslim woman who created BAD ART, a therapeutic approach that uses creative expression, imperfections and all, to help people get unstuck. She's bringing it to STRŌB for a three-hour, after-hours, mostly-silent creative retreat.

You don't have to consider yourself an artist. You don't need to arrive with an idea. You just need to be curious.

Through silence, guided reflection, and time to actually make, you'll move through three parts: meet you (slow down, notice what you're drawn toward), meet the block (get curious about perfectionism, fear, and the voices that interrupt the creative process), and make anyway. No critique. No requirement that the thing be good.

You may leave with something beautiful. You may leave with something terrible. Either way, you made something.

Includes materials, meditation and journaling time, complimentary STRŌB aromatherapy guidance to support the work, and $10 in shop credit to carry something home with you.

Bring your worst idea. We mean that as a compliment.

Restocks, our Palestinian benefit tea (which is delicious), and something to watch for in Wednesday's note.

Dear STRŌB Community,

Happy Sunday. What a weekend! We've got a lot to tell you.

🌲 Diane's Class and Lakisha's Foraging Walk 🌲

Diane's Movement & Tea yesterday morning was, without exaggeration, one of the most emotionally full classes we've hosted this year. Attendees connected on levels we didn't see coming, and every single person asked us to bring it back. We're working on scheduling more. Watch this space.

Lakisha's Foraging Walk headed out into the drizzle in the afternoon, and a brave crew of foragers followed her with intention and purpose. Rain didn't stop them, and they came back with plants, knowledge, and grins. Lakisha is a gift to have as our Thursday practitioner, and moments like this remind us why.

🍁 Watch for Wednesday's Note 🍁

October at STRŌB is going to be a lot, in the very best way! We're dropping the full October calendar in Wednesday's email, and there's a real buffet in there: a hands-on Ayurvedic afternoon, a creative retreat that lets you make bad art on purpose, our annual Moonlight Market, a Fairy Tea Party, and our Birthday Bake-Off, which this year is a fundraiser for the Elfattah family. Something for basically every part of you.

Look for it Wednesday. In the meantime, here's what's happening in the shop this week.

🌱 Local Herb Restocks 🌱

Fresh local-grown restocks on the herb wall this week: Passionflower, Sage, Lemon Balm, Holy Basil, Sweet Annie, and Peppermint. Come pull down what your autumn kitchen and tea shelf are asking for.

🫖 Steeped in Hope: A Note on the Tea Itself 🫖

We've told you the story of Steeped in Hope, our benefit tea for the Elfattah family in Gaza. Today we want to tell you about how the tea actually tastes, because it's genuinely lovely.

Chamomile and hibiscus anchor the blend, chamomile soft and grounding, hibiscus tart, bright red, and refreshing. A whisper of spearmint, just enough to freshen warmly. Rose petals for the tender floral note, and sweet orange peel that smells like the famous Jaffa oranges of Palestine that we wish we could taste. Warming, comforting, hopeful, and minty in the softest way.

It's the kind of tea you reach for on a cool October evening and feel yourself settle. And 50% of every bag goes directly to Moh and his family.

If you missed it, our housing campaign for the Elfattahs is also active, 27 people committing $10/month for a year to help them stay safely housed on rented land.

Ever wonder why your friend thrives on cold plunges and 5am workouts and you just want a nap and a warm blanket? That's Ayurveda. 🌿

On Saturday, October 17th, we're welcoming Ateeka (Anne) Contee, a licensed clinical trauma therapist and Certified Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor with over two decades of experience, for an afternoon that reads your constitution. Not just what type you are, but how it shows up in your stress, your body, your patterns.

If you've taken an online quiz that told you your dosha in thirty seconds, this isn't that. If you're brand new to Ayurveda, welcome. It's a 5,000-year-old system from India built on the idea that everyone has a unique mix of energies, and once you know yours, a lot starts making sense.

Your experience includes education on Ayurveda and doshas, a guided hands-on pulse diagnosis with Ateeka, support mapping your unique constitution, guidance on lifestyle habits to live in tune with your nature, and $10 shop credit.

Ateeka has spent her career blending Western clinical training with the Eastern healing traditions she grew up with in India, so what you leave with is holistic.

The shop is open as usual during the workshop, so browse the shelves before or after.
