Your iron came back low and you assumed it was your diet.
That's the first thing most people assume. Fair enough.
Here's what actually gets missed. A low iron number is not the full story. It's one data point in a much bigger system.
✓ Nutrient gaps. Missing B12, folate, or protein stops your body from building red blood cells in the first place. Some common medications block iron absorption directly in your gut.
That alone explains a lot of stuck numbers.
✓ Chronic inflammation. It raises a hormone called hepcidin that traps the iron you already have away from your blood. Frequent antacids strip the stomach acid you need to absorb it at all.
So before you reach for a standard iron pill, look upstream. Look at your gut. Look at the inflammation.
You don't have a diet problem. You have a diagnosis problem.
