Life lately:

1) watching my "babies" grow... reminder of my daily blessings and to my body doing what it needs to do to survive after all it's been through
2) 1st homebirth as a doula! It was magical, especially sharing space with two dynamic black midwives. Game changer!
3) After 6 years living in Detroit, I made it to Motown Museum! I'll go back again and again. The energy in that space was strong.
4) My dad, my only living parent, came to visit me from the east coast and saw all the accomplishments I've been working hard on. Thankful for him.
5) My heart still grieves even after 5 years of my mom passing. Thankful for community that understands and checks in. I am thankful for my strength in feeling the feels
6) Doing what brings me JOY- random drives, music, and bass on FULL blast, lol - daughter of a music engineer, lol.
7) CIRCA last year home in Jamaica. Ready to throw away the bra, twirl with a loved one, and be free under the Caribbean sun 🌞

I recently discovered from speaking with my aunts and grandmother that when my mother birthed me, she dealt with a hard case of postpartum depression (they didn't have a name for it then). At that time... it was the family/ community taking care of me while others got her out of the house. Even my dad remembers moments he felt hopeless and didn't know how to help her, and all he could do was get me out of her space.

Sharing this to say, until this nation understands the importance and magnitude of Birthing human/s into this world, it's up to us to mother ourselves, mother our own, and build community in protecting women. I am raising girls to women, and they will know who they are and the importance of building a trusted community around them. It's not meant for us to bear this life alone.

Had such a great time at the Birth Detroit Birthworkers Brunch! The melanin in this space was heart warming and brought such joy to my soul. So glad to share this space with dynamic birthworkers.

Beautiful black and brown women here to support mothers and families through motherhood, parenting, and maternal health! Great conversations about what we experience and what is needed to have successful maternal health and children's health results in Detroit and Metro Detoit.

Thank you for creating this space for us.

Detroit Needs a Birth Center.

"Birth Detroit will be the first community birth center in Detroit and the first Black-led birth center in Michigan. 100% of proceeds from the fundraising tee go to the capital campaign." - Birth Detroit

Birthing Abundantly Maternal Services is so proud to support Birth Detroit. I feel confident they will continue to support women of color and reduce birth disparity in Detroit. I stand with them.

Proud to share my story of having early births and navigating breastfeeding. I hope this helps a mama in need or anyone supporting someone who is experiencing the after affects of an early birth. You are resilient and heard 💛

We know birth is unpredictable for each woman, and one pregnancy can’t be compared to another. A baby can be born at any time. In many unexpected cases, emergency births occur because the baby and/or mother are showing health risks. This alone can be a traumatic experience and requires a lot of co...

MOTHERHOOD

Motherhood, a wonderful, whimsical life full of love, comfort, happiness, and joy. However,  it comes with stress, anxiety, anger, loneliness, and sometimes sadness. Embrace both sides of motherhood. Check in with yourself, and acknowledge what you need, because you come FIRST, and your needs come first.
