In my last reel I told you why your estrogen patch is suddenly impossible to find. Here’s what to do about it. 👇

If your exact patch is backordered, you are NOT out of options:
✅ A different brand or dose interval, doubling up or cutting patches to get to your dose.
✅ Gel, spray, oral tablets, and vaginal rings are all FDA-approved alternatives
✅ Compounded medication—try to obtain from a certified pharmacy to ensure quality control
✅ None of these switches have to permanent unless you decide you like them better

Your pharmacy says it’s out. The FDA says there’s no shortage. Both of those things are somehow true — and it’s costing women access to a medication that changed their lives.

Estrogen patch prescriptions are up 184% since 2018 — because more of us finally know hormone therapy is safe, and we’re not settling for “just push through it” anymore. Demand outpaced supply, and now the two agencies tracking this can’t agree on what to call it.
Here’s the disconnect: the FDA’s shortage list runs on manufacturer self-reporting. ASHP’s list — the one pharmacists actually use — already has 14 estrogen patch products on backorder or allocation.

The gap between those two lists? That’s where your voice comes in.

Women’s health has a long history of being an afterthought. This is one place we can push back on that — together.

The estradiol shortage isn’t just an inconvenience — it’s colliding with insurance rules that don’t hold up to basic scrutiny.

Pharmacies rationing to 30-day fills. Insurers demanding 90-day fills or no coverage. And the insurer’s own pharmacy can’t produce 90 days either. My patient shared a letter she received from her insurance company and escalated her concern through several managers without a satisfactory resolution.

That’s not a coverage policy. That’s a system that punishes patients for a supply chain it doesn’t control.

Small business owners — this one’s for you. 🏢

If you’ve wanted to offer your employees a health benefit but can’t afford traditional group insurance, direct primary care might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

For a flat monthly membership fee, your employees get:
💜 Same-day or next-day appointments
🩺 Longer visits with a doctor who actually knows them
📱 Direct access via text or phone
💰 Low-cost labs and imaging
— all without the claims, deductibles, or administrative headaches of traditional insurance.

Employer groups with DPC spend roughly 52% less than comparable non-DPC groups. 85% of employers stick with it after year one. Small businesses are leading this shift — and it makes sense why.

DPC isn’t a replacement for catastrophic coverage, but paired with a high deductible or health sharing plan, it’s one of the most cost-effective benefit packages available to small employers today.

I’d love to talk about what this could look like for your team. 💜. Comment “BENEFITS” and I’ll reach out.
