If you’ve ever left a doctor’s appointment feeling dismissed, minimized, or told your symptoms were “just stress” — you are not alone, and you were not wrong. 🙏

Swipe through for 8 conditions that medicine got wrong for decades. You might recognize some of them. 👉

You might know slide 4 as PCOS. The name just officially changed to PMOS — polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome — and here’s why that matters: the old name implied it was just about ovarian cysts and fertility. It’s not. It’s a complex, whole-body hormonal and metabolic condition affecting 1 in 8 women across their entire lifespan — with real implications for cardiovascular health, metabolic disease, and mental health, long after the reproductive years are over. The rename is a long-overdue acknowledgment that this condition is real, serious, and systemic.

And that’s true of every condition on this list.

Menopause. Perimenopause. Endometriosis. Hypermobile EDS. POTS. MCAS. ADHD in women. These were called anxiety. Stress. Attention-seeking. “Just part of being a woman.” 😤

At Sabia Health, I offer direct primary care for women in midlife — with the time and the training to actually listen. No rushed appointments. No brushing things off. Just real medicine, built around you. 💜

If you’ve ever left a doctor’s appointment feeling dismissed, minimized, or told your symptoms were “just stress” — you are not alone, and you were not wrong.

Medicine has a long history of under-researching and underdiagnosing conditions that disproportionately affect women. Menopause. Perimenopause. PMOS. Endometriosis. Hypermobile EDS. POTS. MCAS. ADHD.real, diagnosable, treatable conditions — and women have been waiting far too long to be taken seriously.

At Sabia Health, I practice direct primary care for women in midlife, which means I have the time and the training to actually listen. No rushed appointments. No brushing things off. Just real medicine, built around you.

Osteoporosis isn't just a concern for "old" women. The most rapid bone loss happens in the years right around menopause—often before you're even thinking about it. And current guidelines don't recommend screening until age 65, when it is too late.

The good news? There's so much you can do now: assess your fracture risk with a bone density study by age 50, optimize vitamin D and calcium intake, discuss hormone therapy's bone benefits, and incorporate strength training and jumping into your workout routine.

And even if you already have osteoporosis, we are now learning that it is possible to build back bone.

If you're eating the same and exercising the same but the scale keeps creeping up—it's not you. It's your changing hormones.

Estrogen decline affects where you store fat, how you process insulin, and how your body uses energy. Add in disrupted sleep and increased stress, and weight loss becomes genuinely harder.

This is why I take a medical approach: we look at your hormones, your metabolic markers, your sleep, your stress. And yes, when appropriate, we discuss medication options that can help. GLP-1 medications are becoming more affordable. And, we have some tried and true medications that are very affordable.

You deserve more than "eat less, move more."

May is Women’s Health Month, and I wanted to share something I genuinely believe: most women are doing a lot right — they’re just missing a few key pieces.

Over the years I’ve organized my approach to women’s health into 9 pillars. Not because I want anyone to overhaul their entire life, but because it helps to zoom out and ask: where am I actually doing well, and where have I been letting things slide?

Some of these you’ve heard before. Some might surprise you. Swipe through and see what stands out.

And if something resonates — or if you’ve been putting off a conversation about your health — my door is open.
