September is PCOS Awareness Month — a time dedicated to raising awareness about Polycystic O***y Syndrome, now renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), and those affected by it.

PCOS/ PMOS is a common hormonal disorder that affects approximately 1 in 10 women of reproductive age and can cause a range of symptoms, including irregular periods, excess androgen levels, and polycystic ovaries, which can lead to issues like weight gain, acne, hair growth, chronic pelvic pain, urinary incontinence and infertility.

Because those with PCOS/ PMOS often experience issues that can affect the pelvic floor muscles, pelvic floor physical therapy can be an essential part of managing symptoms, improving quality of life, and promoting overall health. It can help alleviate pelvic pain, improve bladder control, enhance sexual health and more.

Individuals with PCOS/ PMOS deserve comprehensive, compassionate care. At Treasure Valley Pelvic Health, we believe in treating the whole person — not just one symptom. If pelvic health concerns are affecting your quality of life, we’re here to help. Reach out and schedule a Care Call today to learn more: https://www.tvpelvichealth.com/schedule.

At Treasure Valley Pelvic Health, we made it a priority this summer to encourage our staff to prioritize health and well-being, just like we do with our patients every day. Back in June, we launched a self-care adventure challenge featuring scout-style badges for completing activities that support movement, connection, and relaxation, and the challenge continues!

We are so proud of our staff for getting out and doing the activities that spark joy for them. Here are just a few snapshots of what they have been up to, including golf, road trips, attending sports games and catching up with friends.

If you’re looking for a sign to take some time for yourself, this is it! Where have your self-care adventures led you this summer? Let us know down in the comments.

A huge thank you to Dr. Becky Gomez of Mangum Primary Care in Boise for taking the time to educate our team about Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)!

MCAS is a complex condition involving the immune system. Mast cells, which are found throughout the body, help protect us from infections and allergens. In people with MCAS, these cells can become overactive, releasing chemicals like histamine that can trigger a wide range of symptoms affecting multiple body systems, including swelling, hives, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, vomiting, and, in severe cases, anaphylaxis.

At Treasure Valley Pelvic Health, we are committed to lifelong learning and regularly participate in in-house education and advanced training. Opportunities like these help us stay current on complex conditions that may impact our patients and strengthen our collaboration with healthcare providers across specialties.

We're grateful to Dr. Gomez for sharing her expertise and helping us continue to provide thoughtful, evidence-informed, patient-centered care.

If you have any questions about MCAS, feel free to reach out to Mangum Primary Care!

Have you heard of endometriosis? Endometriosis is an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus — the endometrium — grows outside your uterus. The endometrial tissue can create adhesions and restrictions between tissues that lead to a range of symptoms for many women like painful periods, pain during ovulation, fatigue, irritability and more.

If you have endometriosis and are ready to start your healing journey, reach out and schedule a Care Call today: https://www.tvpelvichealth.com/schedule. We’ll help guide you through the process and connect you with any other providers that may be beneficial to optimizing your healing journey.
