🐾 Scratching More Than Usual?

An occasional itch is normal but frequent scratching, licking, chewing, or rubbing could be a sign of allergies.

Pet allergies can be triggered by things like pollen, grasses, dust, fleas, or even certain foods. You might also notice red skin, paw licking, recurrent ear problems, hair loss, or irritated skin.

❤️ Your pet doesn’t have to live with the itch! If you’re noticing more scratching than usual, schedule a visit so we can help identify the cause and get them feeling comfortable again.

🐾 Labor Day Pet Safety!

Celebrating the last days of summer? Keep these common holiday hazards away from your pets:

🌭 Cookout Foods – Bones, fatty foods, onions, grapes, chocolate & alcohol can be dangerous.

🔥 Hot Grills – Keep curious paws and noses away from grills, charcoal & skewers.

☀️ Heat & Hot Pavement – Provide shade and fresh water, and keep those paws off hot surfaces.

🎆 Fireworks & Loud Noises– Give nervous pets a quiet, secure place indoors.

🏊 Pools & Water – Always supervise pets around pools, lakes and boats.

🦟 Bug Sprays & Sunscreen– Human products may not be safe for pets.

🚪 Open Gates & Doors – Holiday gatherings make escapes easier. Double-check collars, ID tags and microchip information.

Have a safe & happy Labor Day weekend with your four-legged family! ❤️🐾

🐾 Is Your Pet Up to Date on Their Wellness Care?

Take a few minutes today to think about your pet’s last wellness visit. ❤️ When was their last physical exam, vaccines, routine lab work, parasite screening, or dental check?

Regular wellness care isn’t just about vaccines, it gives your veterinarian the opportunity to monitor changes in your pet’s weight, teeth, heart, joints, skin, and overall health. Because pets can be very good at hiding signs of illness, routine visits can also help us identify concerns earlier.

If your pet has fallen a little behind, that’s okay! Now is a great time to get them back on track.

🐱 When Was Your Cat’s Last Checkup?

Cats are experts at hiding when something isn’t quite right. That is one reason regular wellness visits are so important, even when your cat seems perfectly healthy. ❤️

Routine exams give us a chance to check things like weight, dental health, heart and lungs, skin and coat, mobility, and overall health. Depending on your cat’s age and lifestyle, we may also recommend vaccinations, parasite prevention, or routine lab work.

And remember—indoor cats need wellness care too! Preventive visits can help us catch subtle changes early and keep your cat feeling their best through every stage of life.

😻 Is your kitty due for a visit? Give us a call to schedule their next wellness exam!

🐾 Meet Dr. Liv Carolan

We are so excited to welcome Dr. Liv Carolan to the Animal Health & Wellness family! And for some of our longtime clients, she may even be a familiar face. Dr. Carolan grew up in Setauket and actually shadowed Dr. Templeton at AHW years ago, making her return as one of our veterinarians extra special.

Dr. Carolan graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and has special interests in pain management, emergency medicine, soft tissue surgery, and point-of-care ultrasound.

She loves building strong relationships with families and helping pets live happier, more comfortable lives. Her approach to care is all about compassion, patience, and attention to detail.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Carolan enjoys walking local trails, cooking, trying new recipes, and playing soccer. She also has two pets of her own—Mudge, a Labrador Retriever, and Ozzy, a Persian cat!

Please join us in giving Dr. Carolan a big welcome back to Animal Health & Wellness! We’re so happy to have her here. ❤️🐾
