Meet Lauryn Wenberg – a speech-language pathologist and one of Active Therapy’s newest employees!
Where did you obtain your degree? “I earned my bachelor’s degree in speech-language and hearing sciences with a minor in neuroscience, from the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities in 2021. I pursued graduate school at St. Cloud State University, where I earned my master’s degree in communication sciences and Disorders in 2024. Since graduating, I have worked across the acute care and inpatient rehabilitation setting with adult populations. However, I recently returned to Minnesota and am excited to explore new settings this field has to offer!”
What made you want to become a speech-language pathologist? “I became interested in the field of Speech Language Pathology, after seeing the positive impact these services had on my grandmother’s quality of life throughout her life living with Multiple Sclerosis. I was drawn to this field after seeing the patience, skill, and compassion shown to her throughout the most challenging years of her life. I enjoy how meaningful and compassionate the work this field does, and enjoy being a source of support to others, and help them to improve their communication, voice, and overall connection with others and things they enjoy.”
What are your areas of interest? Are you specialized in a specific area(s)? “My clinical interests include working with adult and geriatric populations addressing adult neurogenic communication disorders, cognitive-linguistic disorders, and dysphagia. I specifically am interested in working with individuals with aphasia, following traumatic brain injury (TBI), and individuals with neurodegenerative disorders (i.e., dementia, ALS, MS, Parkinson’s).”
What type of therapist do you aspire to be? “I aspire to be a compassionate, evidence-based clinician, who works to provide patient-centered care for adult populations with a variety of communicative, cognitive, and swallowing needs. I hope to form strong relationships with my patients, empower them, and establish a mutual respect in order to achieve functional outcomes.”
What is a fun “non-therapy” fact about you? “I grew up in La Crosse, WI before moving to Minnesota for college! I have two sisters and one brother. My hobbies include traveling, going to concerts, reading, and spending time with friends/family!”
