Coy Naugle started the NSH Histology Training Program with no prior knowledge, fresh into a new role at HNL Lab Medicine. The program covered the fundamentals of histology and reinforced what he was learning on the job from his mentors, along with practical tips and theoretical background he still uses today.

Kira Paukovits, who also went through the program, says becoming certified helped her advance in her career and gave her more confidence in her day to day work.

Skin cancer surgery still involves more guesswork than you'd think. Dr. Michael Giacomelli's research found that when frozen sections flagged an extra excision stage, about 1 in 4 times it wasn't real tumor, just an artifact from how the tissue was sectioned. That means real patients going through procedures they didn't actually need.
