Happy Black Breastfeeding Week! 🤎

This year’s theme, “We All We Got: 15 Years of Community, Care, and Collective Power,” celebrates the people, organizations, and shared knowledge that continue to uplift Black families throughout their feeding journeys.

In honor of Black Breastfeeding Week, we are highlighting several national and local resources supporting Black families:

🤎 Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE) — a national organization working to normalize breastfeeding in Black communities ReachingOurSistersEverywhere

🤎 Mamatoto Village — a Washington, D.C.-based organization offering breastfeeding services, consultations, classes, and community support

🤎 Crowned & Cradled and Sacred Latch — local Black lactation professionals providing personalized support to families in our community

This week, we celebrate Black parents, babies, lactation professionals, birth workers, advocates, and communities—and the collective power of making sure no family has to navigate feeding alone.

Save and share this post to help more families find the support they deserve.

This year’s World Breastfeeding Week theme is “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems”—and the word “sustainable” is especially important.

So much breastfeeding support shows up during the first few days, then disappears just when families may need it most: at two weeks, during a growth spurt, through the return-to-work transition, or around month four when feeding can suddenly feel harder.

Sustainable support can look like:

🤱 A lactation consultant you can reach beyond the hospital stay
🤱 A partner or family member who knows how to help—not just cheer from the sidelines
🤱 A workplace that provides the pumping time and private space nursing employees are entitled to
🤱 A community of friends, groups, and trusted professionals that does not disappear after the first week

Breastfeeding is not a one-time event. It is an evolving relationship that deserves ongoing, practical, compassionate support—and that is exactly why this work exists.

What does meaningful support look like for your family?
Milk in Motion is here to support you through every stage of your feeding journey. 🤍

Summer gatherings can be fun — and also a lot when you’re nursing, pumping, leaking, packing bottles, managing naps, and trying to eat a burger before it gets cold.

A little planning can make the day feel easier: feed before things get busy, find a quiet spot to nurse or pump, pack a cooler, stay hydrated, and give yourself permission to head home before the fireworks if you or baby are done.

Save this before your holiday weekend plans. 🇺🇸

Going back to work while breastfeeding can feel like a lot. 🤍

You are managing your supply, your comfort, your baby’s needs, and your work responsibilities all at once. You should not also have to wonder whether you are “allowed” to pump. 🍼

For many employees, federal law provides pumping protections, including reasonable break time and a private space that is not a bathroom. DC and Virginia also have strong local protections, while Maryland can be a little more nuanced depending on your job and employer. 📍

The big takeaway: you deserve a pumping plan that is private, practical, and actually workable. 💪

Happy Pride Month from Milk in Motion. 🌈

Feeding support should be for every family.

That means creating space for LGBTQ+ parents, non-birthing parents, trans and nonbinary parents, adoptive parents, intended parents, and every family structure in between.

Whether you are breastfeeding, chestfeeding, pumping, combo feeding, bottle feeding, or figuring it out one day at a time, you deserve support that is affirming, practical, and centered on your family.

At Milk in Motion, we believe every parent deserves to feel seen, respected, and supported.

Your family is valid.
Your feeding journey matters.
You belong here. 🤍

When a baby struggles to feed, it is often their body or nervous system asking for support.
Not a sign of failure. Not a sign that you are doing something wrong.

If something doesn’t feel right, trust that feeling.
You know your baby better than anyone.

You deserve support as you navigate feeding.
It is okay to ask questions.
It is okay to speak up.
It is okay to advocate for your baby.

That is not overreacting. That is attunement. 🤍

We’re here to help you find a path that feels safe, supportive, and steady. Link in bio to contact Milk in Motion today 🔗
