Cheshire Home was honored to welcome Senator Anthony Bucco to Cheshire Home to learn more about our mission, the individuals we serve, and the challenges facing our community. During his visit, Senator Bucco demonstrated genuine interest in our work, asked thoughtful and insightful questions, and was receptive to understanding both our accomplishments and the obstacles we continue to navigate.

Senator Bucco has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families through legislative advocacy focused on safety, accessibility, and quality of care, priorities that closely align with Cheshire Home’s mission.

Opportunities to engage directly with policymakers are invaluable in helping raise awareness and strengthen support for organizations like Cheshire Home dedicated to empowering adults living with spinal cord injuries and other neurological impairments to reclaim their maximum level of independence.

Cheshire Home residents and staff had a fun afternoon attending the annual Food Truck Festival and Fireworks hosted by the East Hanover PBA Local 227 Civic Association. From enjoying delicious food and spending time together to taking in the excitement and energy of the event, it was a day full of smiles and memorable moments.

Opportunities like these are so important because they create spaces for connection, inclusion, and shared experiences within our community. We are grateful to the East Hanover PBA for bringing people together each year and helping create such a fun and welcoming event for everyone who attended. Events like these remind us that some of the best memories are made when communities come together. 💙

A huge thank you to the students from Madison High School Algebra Club who came to Cheshire Home in May for their Day of Caring! Their energy, teamwork, and willingness to jump in wherever needed made a meaningful impact. 💙

From washing tables and setting up umbrellas in preparation for our Memorial Day BBQ, to helping with projects around the property, including moving and removing large items and preparing our residents’ gardens for planting. The students and high school teachers Stephen Hughes, and Nick DeGennaro worked hard all day to help make our community spaces more welcoming and enjoyable for our residents and staff.

The day wrapped up with a well-earned pizza party. Thank you, Madison High School, for spending your Day of Caring with us! The small acts often make the biggest difference. We are grateful for their time, dedication, and commitment to making a difference. ✨

There’s something truly special about the healing power of animals. 🐴💙

Cheshire Home was filled with smiles, laughter, and plenty of heartwarming moments thanks to a visit from Ravi, the adorable miniature therapy horse. From gentle nuzzles to unforgettable interactions, Ravi brought smiles to the faces of residents and staff alike, creating moments of connection that brightened everyone’s day.

The excitement on residents’ faces and the happiness shared reminds us how meaningful these visits can be. Sometimes, the smallest moments, like a soft touch from a furry friend, can make the biggest impact.

A huge thank you to Ravi and Maureen from Hope’s Promise for bringing so much happiness to our Cheshire Home family. We’re already looking forward to the next visit!

Cheshire Home residents are officially back on the diamond for a second year playing in the adaptive softball league organized by DAWN Center for Independent Living, and if last week’s game was any indication, this season is going to be fun! 💙

From rolling up to the plate and making big plays to cheering teammates on from the sidelines, the field was full of laughter, teamwork, and those moments that remind us that sports are about so much more than the score.

What makes this league so special is that it is all about inclusion, community, confidence-building and friendship. Everyone gets the chance to be part of the action and our residents showed up, ready to play.

Huge shoutout to the players, staff, volunteers, and supporters who make these nights possible. We’re excited for another summer filled with softball, smiles, and unforgettable memories. Let the season begin! 🌟

Effective wound care and pain management are vital for individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI). Preventive strategies like regular skin checks, pressure relief, proper hygiene, and supportive equipment help reduce the risk of pressure ulcers and skin complications.

Pain management may include medications, physical therapy, and complementary treatments to improve comfort and mobility. Proper nutrition and a comfortable, accessible environment also support healing and overall well-being.

We are reaching out on behalf of our residents with physical disabilities with an important request. Cheshire Home is the only facility in the tri-state region that has the Rise&Walk®, a harness-based device designed specifically for people who cannot walk on their own. For our residents, who are newly paraplegic or quadriplegic, this rehabilitation equipment helps them stand and take steps, often for the first time since their injury.
