Your breath is one of the simplest ways to communicate safety to your nervous system.
When we’re stressed, overwhelmed, or anxious, our breathing often becomes shallow and quick — reinforcing the message that our body needs to stay on alert.
But when we intentionally slow our breathing, especially allowing for a longer, gentler exhale, we can support the body’s shift toward a calmer, more regulated state.
Your breath won’t remove every stressor in your life. But it can remind your body that it doesn’t have to live in survival mode.
Sometimes regulation begins with something as simple as:
inhale.
exhale.
soften.
repeat.
Your nervous system is always listening to the signals your body sends.
