September is Su***de Prevention Month an important reminder that mental health deserves the same attention, compassion, and care as physical health.
Research suggests that hormonal changes and certain endocrine markers may be associated with mood and suicidal behavior in some populations. However, su***de risk is complex and influenced by many biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors. A hormonal imbalance should never be presented as the single cause.
When clinically appropriate, knowing your baseline levels may help your healthcare professional better understand changes in mood, sleep, energy, menstrual patterns, and overall well-being. However, no hormone test can predict su***de risk, and laboratory testing does not replace mental-health screening, professional support, or emergency care.
Check in with yourself. Check in with the people you love. Speak up when something does not feel right.
If you or someone you know needs immediate emotional support, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. If there is immediate danger, call 911.
