Pilates with Alexis

Pilates with Alexis Comprehensively Trained Pilates Instructor. Teaching group and private lessons. Helping your move your body safely to build strength, flexibility and stability.

Welcome! My name is Alexis and my journey with learning and practicing Charkra Healing began more than twelve years ago with my martial arts training. My education and usage of essential oils started over twenty years ago in Portland, Oregon. I have always turned to holistic healing for my wellness through massage, acupuncture, reiki, tea, essential oils, etc. It only made sense to share and help

guide others on their journey to learning and listening to their own bodies. COMING SOON! I offer small group and individual crystal sound bath meditation sessions. The sessions help to relax your mind, remove negative energy, and bring the body back to a positive state. One-on-one sessions are specific to you with guidance to help balance your system.

Fun fact: I have been a photographer for over twenty years.

I taught photography at NWTC for a couple years and then the pandemic started and everything changed.

I love teaching and sharing tips and knowledge with others. Just like how I teach pilates I was the same with photography. To the point, no fluff and here to help you get better.

So when I saw that the current students needed real like models for an end of school project I offered!

took these new branding portraits of me.

I haven’t been in front of the camera for years as all my photography friends are in different states.

She did a great job, and if you are in the Green Bay Area reach out to her!

Facing ropes series.

before we get started, let’s look at some set up on the reformer.

Your set up and positioning is just as important to everything else and it’s gonna be slightly different for everyone.

That’s why it’s important to have an Instructor having eyes on you and your body and helping you make any adjustments you may need.

So the two mistakes, I often see when people set up for their roll down on the reformer is there too far forward on the carriage or they’re too far back.

Palms distance is a good reference point to make sure you still have a little space.

We are staying on two red Springs on the reformer for some single leg footwork.

There’s lots of variations and options to create a flow with single leg footwork.

Remember anytime you move into any unilateral work you wanna make sure that that pelvis is stable and you’re using that deep breath pattern to engage the diaphragm through each movement.

You can try this entire flow today or maybe just practice the first set on the heels and then practice the other set on your toes for another time.

I have been sprinkling this flow into my intermediate classes.

Most of us sit a lot during the day due to work and travel. Opening up and strengthening our hips is important.

I’m on two red springs.

Semi circle on the reformer.

One red spring. Give me support but always makes it a challenge.

Note I am 5’9” so extending my arms all the way out straight would limit my extension with my legs. All bodies are unique and different!

Make sure your instructor is teaching to your body.

Push through bar with springs from below on the Cadillac.

This series is great because you are building up to the teaser. Building in layers helps you feel how the body is in that moment.

If something isn’t available to you it’s ok! Please remember that. A couple years ago this teaser was not available. I needed to first regain my abdominal strength.

When we work in layers it give us the opportunity to recognize misalignments and if we should pause and not move forward.

Thank you Elizabeth for the kind words!

It was always a joy to work with you. You were very receptive and interested in learning about your body.

I loved hearing your accomplishments with races and how you felt stronger and moved safer while running marathons all thanks to Pilates 👏

You are a kind person with an amazing athletic drive!

Bird dog variations with the TRX!

The TRX is a great prop or tool to change up your pilates practice.

This would not be available if there is a shoulder injury or limitation.

TRX! We’re still gonna stay with the TRX. You’re gonna adjust the straps if you need to you wanna find a link where you’re supported, but also are not flattening out onto the mat.

Sometimes just moving forward towards the anchor point works.

Make sure your elbows are narrow as you go in to your straight back. They’re gonna hold it gonna add marching legs go into a table top hold then go into your teaser.

They’re gonna lower it all down and we are gonna work on teasing up.

Pilates but with the TRX!

When we do the same movements on different props or apparatus it changes slightly.

My lats and triceps are helping me stay stable while I go into the movements.

Give it a try today!
