SMC Director Robin traveled to the Midwest to celebrate the beautiful life of Lilias Folan “America’s first true yoga influencer”, who recently passed away at the age of 90. Held at the stunning St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the ceremony was a moving tribute filled with the palpable love, joy, and light that Lilias brought to everyone she touched.

For many of us who grew up watching public broadcasting, Lilias was a household fixture—the flexible “Mr. Rogers” who brought yoga right into our living rooms right before Sesame Street. As a fellow Midwesterner from Cincinnati, she was a true pioneer who inspired generations of practitioners and teachers alike.

Robin was joined by several yoga therapists from the Cincinnati area to honor her memory. SMC students may recognize a familiar face in the photos Jerry Lucas, a guest instructor in our IAYT-accredited yoga therapy training program, who attended alongside Robin.

We send our deepest love, gratitude, and best wishes to Lilias’s family, students, and everyone carrying on her incredible legacy. 🧘‍♀️❤️

“You teach best what you most need to learn.” ✨

Long before founding the Stress Management Center of Marin, our director Robin Gueth was a 16-year-old classical pianist dealing with debilitating pain and chronic migraines. Seeking a way to heal, she turned to yoga.

It didn’t just ease her physical pain; it transformed how she lived, breathed, and navigated the world. While she didn’t become a concert pianist, that pivotal moment pointed her toward her true calling.

For over 25 years, Robin has been helping others step out of physical and mental chaos to find their own inner calm. Want to read more about her journey? Check out our latest features on the blog! 🔗 [Link in Bio]
