I have always been a Healer.
My journey started in my teens as a Candy Striper at National Orthopeadic Hospital in Arlington, VA. Then in my 20's as an EMT at a free standing emergency center in Springfield, VA. Later as a surgical assistant for a Podiatrist, where patients being scrubbed up for surgery would tell me “you have such kindness in your eyes”; various administrative positions in almost every department of Health Care, Lab technician and Phlebotomist and ultimately Registered Nurse.
Throughout my journey - I kept asking why are we as humans dealing with ailments that repeat? In my 30's this question took me on the journey of Alternative Health and Healing.
Feelings Buried Alive and Never Die by Karol Truman was the first book I read about the relationship of emotions and health. The ability to begin healing in prayer/meditatoin. Then on to Herbalism and Bach Flower Remedies, Essential Oils, Crystals, Certification as a Natural Health Professional.
I did not realize that God was preparing me for the greatest challenge I would experience.
Ultimately, years before retirement I began studying and training for Reflexology and Touch For Health an Energetic healing modality. Touching multiple lives and seeing positive changes in their health and emotional wellbeing.
Following a traumatic event in my life...I could connect some of the dots - Emotion Code sessions that I felt led to before this event. The Touch for Health - from which God provided a Healer to help me on my healing journey when we returned home to Virginia. A longing for more spirituality and less religion. God was peparing me and I did not even know it.
Embracing not only meditation and prayer but evaluating my belief systems and embracing the reality that we are but a shell. The Soul Never Dies and we can learn to communicate with our loved ones across the veil.
Suddenly, the realization that early teachings and preparations were purposeful and I was leaning on their wisdom - for emotional healing of the trauma.
What isn't healed emotionally - presents physically. Even as a nurse I saw a correlation with patients between onset of diabetes after a profound loss - the body/mind/spirit was searching for a sweetness to life.
I personally experienced psychosomatic "injuries" for lack of a better word. Unable to put any pressure on my right foot for 6 weeks. No reason was found after extensive testing and assessment. Inability to walk without a cane due to extreme pain in my right knee. Both occurred after returning home from Montana at different times but directly related to what I was emotionally experiencing.
Once home in Virginia I was able to address my healing instead of the hours spent coordinating searches and vigils and seeking answers in the mountains, valley and rivers of Montana. Although, being in nature so much of the days in Montana was what got me through along with the many amazing people who entered into our lives to support us during the most excruciating pain a parent can endure. Having people in your life who are not afraid of your grief is healing and such an act of unconditional love.
Shiome has played a huge role in my healing, Meditations on Gratitude, Women's Mind Body Indigenous Group that has taught me so much about witnessing and encouraging one another, Carry the Message (an Indigenous healing circle that provides a place to be witnessed), Suzanne Geisman, Transcending Grief, Healing through Hope, Grief Yoga, Lambs Art for expression through different forms of Art, Holy Fire Reiki, Pranic Healing and the healing received from Sound Therapy. And yes, Helping Parents Heal, Tender Heart Grief Sessions and Grief Educator teachings. My Grief bible – “Permission to Mourn”.
Healing is Mind, Body and Spirit. Healing is not linear. We might change modalities from time to time or even out grow modalities. Healing is a life long journey.
It takes courage to step beyond what you thought you know and be willing to step into new territory for healing. We are all made in God's image. We are made in God's love. We are love and can reflect the light and love of God to others.
It is okay to be curious to ask if a modality is right for you. Ask for God's discernment and protection and trust your heart.
