A new era at our program began this October! John Salazar is the new Director of the program. I'll be assuming a role as a part-time Clinical Instructor on a path to retirement. John brings years of CRM experience in sales, sales management and marketing. This gives us more depth and experience to serve our students as they seek careers in the cardiac medical device industry.

We completed the CRM portion of our program with practical exams in the programmer lab and a simulated CRTD implant using our Surgical Science, ANGIO Mentor simulator. The exams are very challenging, but everyone successfully passed. Now on to EP! Let the mapping begin.

We had some great presentations and demonstrations on the Boston Scientific S-ICD by Caroline Bates and Kasey Vuong. Also, the protocols for clinical trials by Medtronic Cardiac and Vascular by Elizabeth Smith and Stacey Doyal. Thank you very much for excellent educational experiences.

Clinical Observations in the Texas Medical Center at Memorial Hermann Health System, which now has an ACC Accredited EP LAB, start in our first month. In one day, four of our students saw 4 ablation procedures (2 PVI, CTI & 2 VT), a left atrial appendage closure, a PFO closure, a dual chamber pacemaker and a leadless pacemaker. They watch in the procedure room while learning from UTHealth physicians, industry professionals and AHP's.

We completed the first two weeks of fundamentals which included a heart dissection and a lecture on radiation safety by Dr. Rose. We're very fortunate to have UTHealth professors and physicians contributing to the education of our students.
