Houston Medical Forum The Houston Medical Forum was founded in 1958 as a Houston doctors association for black doctors. To and a branch of the Lone Star Medical Association.

Today it exists as a component society of the National Medical Association, Inc. Its members consist predominantly of African American physicians and surgeons as well as attended by residents and medical students. We offer many benefits of membership in our association of black doctors, including:

Houston Medical Forum is honored to present the Centennial Lifetime Achievement Award to Valerae O. Lewis, M.D. 🏆

Dr. Lewis studied at Yale University and Harvard Medical School before building a distinguished career at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she became the inaugural Chair of Orthopedic Surgery and the first African American woman to lead an orthopedic department at a major cancer center.

Her contributions to orthopedic oncology, surgical innovation, and academic medicine have shaped the field worldwide, and her decades of mentorship have inspired generations of physicians.
