One of my students shared something with me recently that perfectly captures why I teach the way I do.

She told me she used to travel with large bottles of Tylenol and Advil because pain, stiffness, and tension were simply part of life.

Today, she travels with therapy balls, mobility tools, and self-care practices instead.

She learned how to release tension, improve mobility, and support her body before pain becomes the main conversation.

A few years ago, I was fighting to save my leg.

6 months ago I broke my leg.

Today, I'm hanging upside down from the ceiling.

Life is funny that way.

This was only my second time on the aerial apparatus at InFlyte Entertainment on Park Street, and I'm completely hooked. Was it graceful? Not always. Was it easy? Definitely not.

But growth rarely happens inside our comfort zones.

As a yoga teacher, I spend a lot of time encouraging others to try new things, trust themselves, and discover what they're capable of. This experience reminded me that I need those lessons, too.

Watching a swan take flight on the Assabet River before class felt like the perfect metaphor. Sometimes we don't know we have wings until we step into something unfamiliar.

At 59, I'm still learning.
Still growing.
Still challenging myself.
Still finding new ways to move.

And honestly? I'd still rather be upside down.

Summer doesn’t just change the weather… it changes the body.

In Ayurveda, summer is known as Pitta season, fire, heat, intensity, transformation.

Sage in my garden + Ayurveda in my kitchen

Right now we’re deep in Pitta season—summer heat, intensity, inflammation, and that feeling of being “on fire” inside and out.

In Ayurveda, we balance that fire with:
• cooling foods
• hydrating herbs
• grounding rituals
• and intentional simplicity

Sage is one of those powerful herbs I grow right in my garden. While it’s warming in large doses, in small culinary amounts it becomes beautifully clarifying—especially when paired with cooling summer ingredients.

My go-to right now: Cucumber + avocado + mint + lemon + a pinch of sage
Simple. Fresh. Cooling. Restorative.

Food isn’t just fuel.
It’s information for the body.
It’s regulation for the nervous system.
It’s medicine.

Sometimes the muscle you're constantly stretching… isn't actually the problem.

Sometimes it's weak.

Sometimes something else is compensating.

Sometimes your body is running a workaround because another area stopped doing its job.

That’s why random movement advice doesn’t work for everybody.

Bodies are smart.

They adapt.
