Our FAVORITE Aunty Betts!!! We have been partnering with Betts Cruz, artist/photographer, for a number of years. We sell her photo cards and send her cards for special occasions as well as thank you notes. Check out her cards at the drugstore as well at the Saturday MACC Market at the Molokai CHC. MEET OUR "MOMPRENEUR"—Earlier this year, one of our employees was eating a PB & Kekoa Butter sandwich in our employee kitchen. She suggested to Hulu, “We should sell this at the drugstore.” One phone call and we had our first delivery of Kekoa Butters (lilikoi)! “Mompreneur” and Molokai girl, Lanre Kekoa, started her business to help support her family and now makes a variety of flavors. She now sells her butters at the Molokai Farmers Market; MKK Grab & Fly; Haleola Essentials; Maunaloa General Store; and Molokai Drugs. Check out this Molokai-made product. Very delicious on crepes, ice cream, pancakes, toast and waffles, too! 🌺

“KUMUSTA, TITA!” (Hello, Aunty!)…

We are so fortunate to have Tricia Aguirre now working at our community pharmacy. She started at the front register but we asked if she could work in the "back" pharmacy. It’s been a long time since we had a fluent Ilocano speaker. Now we have one! Tricia also speaks a little bit of Tagalog. She is a proud Filipina and values staying connected to her roots and her culture. Being able to speak English, Ilocano, and Tagalog helps her “stay close to family traditions and communicate with members of the local community.”

A Molokai High alumna, Tricia was raised between Washington state and Molokai. When she isn’t at work, she is at the beach with her beautiful family. We are nīele (nosy in Hawaiian) and will ask her children what they ate for breakfast and lunch at Kualapu'u Conversion Charter School (we all are jealous of the great meals served there). Her keiki are very respectful and love the students, teachers, and staff at our island’s only charter school.

I asked her why she works at Molokai Drugs: “At Molokai Drugs, I am able to support and care for the community. Whether through a friendly conversation, helping someone find what they need, or simply being there for others, I take pride in trying to make a positive difference in people's lives every day.” 🌺

DID YOU KNOW that every Molokai resident can come to Kamoi Snack-n-Go, Inc. on their birthday and receive a FREE single scoop of Dave's Hawaiian Ice Cream?!?!? 🍨🍨🍨

We take it up a notch for our drugstore employees and normally upgrade the birthday scoop to a sundae. This month, we have three August birthdays representing three decades - Cynthia, CPhT (40-something); Delvarie, product dispenser (30-something); and Kelly, pharmacist-in-charge (50-something) - so we made homemade chocolate chip brownies the night before. Some of the best brownies ever made and everyone had their choice of 40+ ice cream flavors! How are we going to top this? We're going to make triple banana splits for our next group of birthdays at the pharmacy!

Our Molokai senior citizens are our island's treasures. They are our legacy, our history, and the reason we are all here. They have many oral and written stories to share and they want to share with us before they are gone. We at Molokai Drugs are trying to make the quality of life for our kupuna the highest possible with the resources we have available on island. If there is anything we can do better for our kupuna, please let our staff know. Thank you to Dayanti Karunaratne and The Molokai Dispatch for sharing this story. We will be "talking story" with our seniors more now than ever before. Priceless photographs, advice, reflections, and "remember when..." stories. We love our kupuna💚🤍💚🤍💚
