How cute is this? 🥹 I just had a 20-something-year-old come in for an ear cleaning because he’s getting married next week! 💍

He told me he’s never had his ears cleaned before, but his fiancée put it on his wedding to-do list. 😂 I was happy to inform him that his ears looked great—and he didn’t even need a flush!

One less thing to check off before the big day! ✔️ Congratulations to the happy couple! ❤️

Communication is a two-way street, and a few small changes can make conversations much easier for someone with hearing loss.

Try facing the person when you speak, getting their attention before starting a conversation, and reducing background noise whenever possible. Speaking clearly and at a natural pace is often more helpful than speaking louder.

Remember, hearing loss doesn't mean someone isn't paying attention—it simply means they may need a little extra support to hear and understand what's being said.

Good communication helps everyone stay connected, reduces frustration, and makes conversations more enjoyable for all involved.

Myth vs. Fact: If I Had Hearing Loss, I Would Know It

Many people assume that hearing loss is something they would notice right away. In reality, hearing loss often develops gradually over time, making it easy to miss the early signs.

You may find yourself turning up the TV a little more than before, asking people to repeat themselves, or struggling to follow conversations in noisy places. Because these changes happen slowly, many people adapt without realizing their hearing has changed.

Regular hearing evaluations can help identify hearing loss early and provide peace of mind about your hearing health. If you've noticed even small changes in your ability to hear, it may be worth scheduling a hearing check.

Concerts. Power tools. Lawn equipment. Sporting events.

If it’s loud enough that you have to raise your voice to be heard, it’s loud enough to damage your hearing.

The good news? Protection is simple.

👉 Earplugs or earmuffs can significantly reduce risk—without ruining the experience.

Why Patients Finally Get Their Hearing Checked?

Most people don't schedule a hearing evaluation the first time they notice a problem. In fact, many wait years before taking that first step.

Often, it's a loved one who notices the signs first—asking why the TV is so loud, repeating themselves more often, or pointing out missed parts of conversations. Others may begin struggling to hear at work, in restaurants, or during family gatherings.

The good news is that a hearing evaluation is quick, painless, and can provide valuable insight into your hearing health. The earlier hearing concerns are identified, the sooner you can find solutions that help you stay connected to the people and moments that matter most.

This morning, I went for a walk with a lot on my mind. Instead of trying to quiet my thoughts, I started listening to the sounds around me.

Birds. Insects. My footsteps. My breathing. A bicycle coming up behind me. A plane in the distance. Cars. And even a little bunny hopping through the brush. 🐇

There were sounds everywhere—and suddenly, I felt completely immersed in my surroundings. It was almost like a walking mindfulness meditation.

It also reminded me of something I think about often in my work: hearing is about so much more than understanding conversation. The sounds around us help connect us to the world and to the moments we’re living in.

If you’re missing some of those sounds because of hearing loss, you may not realize how much you’re missing until you start listening for them again.

So the next time you’re out for a walk, try it: stop and listen. How many different sounds can you hear? 👂🌿

Sometimes, being present starts with simply listening.

Myth vs. Fact: Hearing Loss Only Affects Older Adults

When most people think of hearing loss, they picture an older adult. While hearing loss does become more common with age, it can affect people of all ages—including teenagers, young adults, and even children.

Factors such as noise exposure, genetics, illness, certain medications, and medical conditions can all contribute to hearing loss, regardless of age.

That's why it's important to pay attention to the signs of hearing difficulty and have your hearing checked if you notice changes. Hearing health is important at every stage of life, and early detection can make a big difference.
