In honor of Spiritual Care Week, we want to recognize our excellent Spiritual Care Team! This special group does so much to support our Hospice patients and their families. The great work they do is captured beautifully by the theme of this week "Healing Through Presence and Grace." You can read more about the interpretation of the theme from the Spiritual/Pastoral Care Week Committee below:

Rather than hiding the cracks, Kintsugi highlights them—transforming what was once broken into something more beautiful and valuable. We are saddened by the passing of the incredible Florine O’Rourke, but we are so thankful to have known her. In her 102 years, Florine touched countless lives in our community and beyond with her kindness and generosity.

We had the privilege of helping find homes for many of the teddy bears Florine lovingly made for our healing kits for children experiencing grief and loss. Through the time and talent she devoted to making these bears, Florine helped bring comfort to children during some of life’s most difficult moments.

We were honored to present Florine with the KHCHA Home Care Hero Award in September 2021 in recognition of her extraordinary kindness and generosity. Her impact will not be forgotten. We will miss Florine and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family.

Saturday was a beautiful day to join hundreds of our fellow community members for the Walk to End Alzheimer's - Lawrence, Kansas! It was a wonderful event in support of the fight against Alzheimer's Disease.

October is National Chaplain Appreciation Month! We are so thankful for our spiritual care team. The support, guidance, and comfort they provide for our patients and their families are a crucial part of the whole-person care offered by our Hospice team.

Their incredible work also extends beyond the patient's time receiving our services through bereavement care for their loved ones. The compassionate support and guidance they provide help those who are grieving navigate their complex grief journey, ensuring they don't have to face it alone.

Thank you to Esther, Melissa, and Amy for all you do for our patients and their families!

In case you missed it, October is National Physical Therapy Month! That means it's time for another Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant appreciation post.

We have an excellent, experienced team of PTs and PTAs who are dedicated to helping our patients reach their goals. We're grateful for this great group and all they do for our patients, wherever they call home. Thank you to our Physical Therapy team for all of the great work you do!

Active Aging Week starts today! It's a great reminder of the importance of staying active as we age. Physical activity is a vital part of maintaining both physical and mental health. In addition to benefitting your heart, improving strength and balance, and supporting cognitive function, physical activity can also help reduce social isolation.

If you want to be more active, now is a great time to get started! You can join a class at the Senior Resource Center - SRC, start or join a walking group, play pickleball, or try any activity that works for you. The possibilities are plentiful in our wonderful community!
