Going camping this summer?

A great way to prevent tick bites is to treat your clothing with permethrin or spray yourself with EPA-registered inspect repellent before spending extended periods outdoors.

*Permethrin only goes on clothing and gear, NOT on skin.

As always, be sure to read the intended use for the product before using it.

If you're not sure which repellent will work best for you, you can use the EPA's "Find the Repellent that is Right for You" tool by visiting the following link.

Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health is launching an effort to better understand water quality in rural households. This new initiative offers free, voluntary well water testing for property owners across Douglas County. Residents with private wells can work with LDCPH to collect samples for comprehensive analysis, including screening for contaminants such as nitrates, coliform bacteria, and E. coli bacteria.

For more information and to start the process, please email [email protected] or call 785-843-3060.

In just 10 minutes, a car's interior can heat up by 20 degrees. Even on a mild 70° day, your vehicle can reach deadly temperatures of 110°+ within an hour.

Create habits that save lives:
- Never leave a child in a parked car, even for a minute. Heatstroke can happen quickly, even with the windows cracked.
- Always check the back seat before locking your car. Use reminders like placing a personal item (e.g., phone, purse) next to your child.
- Use a car seat reminder or app, especially if your routine changes.
- Teach children that cars are not play areas. Always lock your car and keep keys out of reach to prevent children from climbing inside.

If you see a child alone in a car, call 911 immediately.

Remember: Check the back seat every time you exit your vehicle. No exceptions.
