The American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG) has published its own vaccine schedule to provide clear, evidence based guidance and counter rising vaccine misinformation. Endorsed by 13 medical and health organizations, it continues to recommend COVID 19 vaccination in any trimester of a pregnancy, in contrast to newer Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance that no longer routinely recommends it for all pregnant patients. Recent changes CDC COVID 19 vaccine guidance have led to confusion, driven in part by the transition from routine recommendations to a shared clinical decision making (SCDM) approach, even though vaccines recommended under this framework continue to qualify for coverage. At the end of May, America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) updated its statement affirming that member health plans will continue to cover all Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)–recommended vaccines without cost sharing through at least the end of 2027, including those recommended by the CDC under an SCDM framework.

The World Cup is expected to draw millions of people from as many as 200 countries, according to FIFA ticket request and sale statistics. Strong surveillance and preparedness systems must be in place, including public communication infrastructure. Misinformation is a constant threat; at a minimum there should be a unified risk communication center offering multilingual public health messaging, trusted public health spokespersons, and daily public health advisories during the tournament.

This systematic review and meta-analysis screened more than 5,000 abstracts and evaluated more than 120 studies published between 2024-26. The newer data and updated findings were integrated with 153 studies from two comprehensive 2025 Cochrane reviews, limiting the Cochrane studies to those only related to vaccines approved in the U.S. The data reviewed - dating back more than 20 years - included randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, ecological studies, case-control studies, and immunogenicity analyses. The findings, from the Vaccine Integrity Project, an initiative of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, reinforce decades of research demonstrating that HPV vaccination significantly reduces the risk of cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.

What I didn’t know was that measles can cause long-term complications. A child can seem fine while the virus slowly replicates in her brain, poised to exact a terrible toll years later. Because both Britain and the United States are confronting outbreaks, I am sharing my story. Parents should know just how dangerous this disease is.

If more people had gotten the vaccine, she might still be here.

A 7-year-old boy with a 3-month history of cognitive deterioration and seizures was brought to a tertiary pediatric hospital. He had contracted measles at 7 months of age while living in Afghanistan, where measles is endemic.
A diagnosis of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis was made, despite atypical MRI findings, on the basis of previous measles infection, a history of progressive neurologic decline, and the results of EEG and CSF analysis. Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis is a progressive neuroinflammatory disease associated with persistent measles virus infection. It can have a latency of many years. The condition is fatal. The primary way to prevent measles infection and its neurologic sequelae is vaccination. Twelve months after the initial onset of symptoms, the patient died.
