Let's talk about the thing nobody wants to talk about: mobility devices. 🦯

We spend so much energy on diet, exercise, and doctor visits β€” but the right assistive device might be one of the most overlooked tools for staying safe and independent as we age. And the stats back it up: over 95% of hip fractures in older adults start with a fall.

Choosing the right device is just as important as having one. Too little support and you're at risk of falling. Too much, and you're giving up independence you didn't need to. The goal is always the right fit for YOUR body and YOUR life.

In our latest blog post, we break down the differences between crutches, canes, walkers, rollators, transport chairs, and wheelchairs β€” what each one is for, and how to know which is right for you (hint: it's a conversation worth having with your doctor). πŸ’›

Want to see them up close? Join me Wednesday, September 30th, 11:30am–1:00pm at the Babylon Public Library β€” Village Pharmacy and Surgical : Babylon Village will be providing floor models so you can try them out in person!

Unpopular opinion (that's actually just... science): πŸ™ƒ you don't need another supplement.

You need to go to bed.

Drink some water.

Take a walk.

Eat an actual meal.

Deal with the stress that's been living in your shoulders since 2019.

I know, I know β€” way less exciting than a $60 bottle with a Latin name on it.

But health isn't a hack, it's not one magic pill, and it's definitely not a single fix β€” it's dozens of small boring things, stacked over years, that add up to how you feel (and how long you feel that way).

That's also why who takes care of you matters. A 2020 systematic review in the British Journal of General Practice found that greater continuity of care with the same primary care doctor was linked to lower all-cause mortality β€” likely thanks to stronger clinical follow-through, deeper knowledge of your history, and more patient trust.

Translation: a doctor who actually knows you isn't a luxury, it's a longevity tool.

This is the whole reason AprilMD exists β€” real time, real relationships, real prevention. Not another bottle. πŸ’›

This is the thing I was most afraid to say out loud about motherhood:

Some days I love it so much it hurts. And some days I feel like I'm barely holding the pieces of myself together.

Nobody prepares you for how motherhood asks you to disappear a little β€” how "self-care" becomes a punchline instead of a practice. How your own doctor's appointments get pushed to "someday" while everyone else's needs come first.

I became a physician to take care of people. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to include myself on that list.

Here's what I know now: you cannot pour from an empty cup, and you cannot show up fully for the people you love if your own health is an afterthought.

Prioritizing yourself isn't selfish β€” it's the foundation everything else stands on.

This is exactly why I built AprilMD the way I did. Direct Primary Care means you get real time with your doctor, same-day access when something feels off, and a relationship built on actually being known β€” not rushed through a 10-minute appointment squeezed between a hundred others.

Moms deserve a healthcare experience that doesn't ask them to wait until they're falling apart to be seen.

If you've been putting yourself last, this is your sign. πŸ’›

If you've dropped it low to this song, it's time for your physical sis πŸ’ƒπŸ©Ί

No shade β€” we love a good throwback. But when's the last time you actually got your bloodwork done, your BP checked, or asked your doctor the questions you keep googling at 2am instead of sleeping? πŸ‘€

At AprilMD, your physical isn't a rushed 10-minute check-the-box appointment. It's real time with a doctor who actually knows you β€” no insurance hoops, no waiting weeks for an answer.

We come up with a plan, together, that fits your life and we follow through. The goal is to keep you healthy so you can still break it down when the bangers are playing (even at the grocery store).

Consider this your sign. Book your physical, then get back to your Playlist πŸ’…

Okay mommas, back-to-school season is HERE β€” so let's talk about how to keep your kids actually healthy this year, not just surviving until Friday.

One β€” sleep. Non-negotiable. A tired immune system is a sick immune system. Get bedtimes and wake up times locked in NOW.

Two β€” physicals and vaccines. Don't wait till the school nurse is calling you. Get it done early so you're not scrambling for forms in September. And don't forget to get your seasonal flu shot!

Three β€” the germ swap. New classroom, new backpack of germs coming home. Handwashing isn't just a poster on the wall β€” actually drill it with your kids. Warm water, lather soap and scrub for 20 to 30 seconds, rinse well and dry.

Four β€” breakfast that isn't just sugar. Protein keeps them focused past 10am. Trust me, their teacher will thank you.

Five β€” check in on the mental load. New year, new challenges. Ask real questions, not just "how was school." Create a safe space so they come to you first for both their wins and difficulties.

The truth is, we should all be applying these healthy habits to ourselves. Imagine how much more we would get out of our day if also prioritized sleep and a proper breakfast?! And I get it - as a mum you'll bend over backwards for your kids but your health deserves that care too.

That's exactly why I built AprilMD the way I did: real time with your doctor, on your schedule, and no rushed seven-minute visits.

While you take care of your little ones this school year, let us be the ones taking care of you. 🍎

✨ Find your sign. Then find out what it means for your healthcare. ✨

Ok Chat, let's have a little fun! Swipe through and see how your sign shows up in the exam room (we see you, Virgos, asking for every lab value explained twice πŸ‘€).

Whatever your sign says about you, here's what's true for everyone: you deserve a doctor who actually has time for you. No 7-minute visits. No surprise bills. No waiting three weeks for an answer.

That's the whole idea behind Direct Primary Care β€” and it's why we built AprilMD.

We can't predict your love life β€” but we can promise you real healthcare. πŸ’›
