45 is the New 50
Time for Colon Cancer Screening!

Did you know that the recommended age for colon cancer screening has dropped from 50 to 45?

This means it’s more important than ever to stay informed and proactive about your health!

🔍 Why This Change?
- Rising Rates: Colon cancer diagnoses are increasing in younger adults.
- Early Detection Saves Lives: Screening can catch issues before they become serious.

🗓️ What to Do?
1. Schedule Your Screening: Talk to your healthcare provider about the best screening options for you.

2. Know Your Family History:Share any relevant family medical history to help assess your risk.
3. Stay Informed: Educate yourself about the symptoms and risk factors associated with colon cancer.

Let’s spread the word and encourage our friends and family to prioritize their health!

From the quiet streets of Marion, Arkansas, to the frontlines of healing in Little Rock, this is a journey fueled by pure passion, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to lift others up.

Dr. Brian McGee’s story is a beautiful testament to what happens when dedication meets calling. His path was forged in the rich heritage of Xavier University in New Orleans and anchored in the lifelong brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha—carrying a torch of leadership, service, and academic excellence into every life he touches as a gastroenterologist.

For Brian, medicine isn’t just a career; it’s a daily mission to bring hope and healing to his community. 🩺❤️

But the true heartbeat of his world? His incredible family.

Alongside his brilliant wife—a powerhouse philanthropist and fierce advocate who pours her soul into making the world a better place—they are building a legacy of love. Together, they are raising their vibrant 9-year-old triplets, the unstoppable “MCG3,” and their beautiful teenage daughter, Leyla, who brings that same fierce McGee drive to the volleyball court. 🏐🔥

This is more than a walk down memory lane. It is a celebration of a life built on faith, family, and a relentless drive to make a difference. Every step of the way, every challenge overcome, and every milestone celebrated has led to this moment.

Here’s to the McGee family—living proof that when you lead with love and serve with passion, your impact is limitless.

Colon cancer is no longer just an “older person” disease—rates are rising in people in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

Colon cancer is hitting young adults. Here’s why.

More young people are being diagnosed, and there isn’t one single cause. It’s a perfect storm of:

Modern diet: Lots of ultra-processed foods, red/processed meats and sugary drinks, not enough fiber

Weight & inactivity: More obesity and sedentary lifestyles

Gut & environment: Changes in gut bacteria, early-life antibiotics, and exposure to chemicals and pollutants

Genes & family history: Hereditary syndromes, polyps, and inflammatory bowel disease can drive risk at younger ages

Each newer generation seems to carry higher risk earlier in life, likely from exposures starting in childhood.

Protect yourself:

- Eat more plants and fiber, less ultra-processed and processed meat

- Move your body most days and maintain a healthy weight

- Avoid smoking and heavy alcohol

- Know your family history

- Never ignore blood in stool, bowel changes, unexplained weight loss, or ongoing abdominal pain

- Ask a GI specialist when YOU should start screening—many need it before 45

🩺🔍 When Patients Say They Googled Their Diagnoses

Ah, yes! The infamous Dr. Google strikes again! 🥴💻

Patient: ‘I read online that I might have a rare tropical disease from just eating a taco.’🌮🤔

Me: ‘You know, tacos are generally safe! But if they start talking back, then we might have a problem!’ 😜

Remember, folks, WebMD is not a medical degree! Stick with your gastroenterologist for the real scoop! 🍽️✨
