A very happy 102nd birthday to one of The Summit’s true originals, Virginia Marshburn! 🎉

Virginia was quite literally the very first resident to move into The Summit when we opened in August 2003, which means she has now been part of our community for 23 years.

Affectionately known as our “Summit Queen,” Virginia is gracious, charming, always impeccably put together and still keeping us on our toes.

Please join us in wishing Virginia a beautiful 102nd birthday! 👑💐

Four years ago, Gary and his wife, Marcia, chose to make The Summit their home—and today, Gary says that decision has more than proven itself. 💙

“We looked at several retirement communities. Without question, The Summit is the best, and after living here for four years, that has been proven. A nonprofit keeps up with maintenance and enhancements, and the location is the best!”
— Gary M., Summit Resident

We’re so grateful to have Gary and Marcia as part of The Summit community!

There’s no better way to tell The Summit story than through the people who call it home. 💙

Marg recently shared this feedback in our resident survey:

“In all ways, this first year at The Summit has exceeded my expectations. I am looking forward to the new offerings the Blue Ridge Commons will provide.”

We’re so glad Marg chose to make The Summit home—and we’re excited for all that’s still ahead!

Sisters, together again. 💕

Yesterday, we shared the story of sisters Joanne Tucker and Etta Legner, who spent much of their adult lives living apart before both making The Summit home.

Now, hear from Joanne and Etta themselves as they share what it means to be together again — including the nightly dinners that have become a special part of their routine.

Sometimes, home brings you closer in more ways than one. ❤️

Today may be National Son and Daughter Day, but at The Summit, we’re celebrating sisters! 💕

Sisters Joanne Tucker and Etta Legner spent much of their adult lives living apart, but today they both call The Summit home — and sharing dinner together has become a nightly tradition.

Their story is a sweet reminder that some of life’s best moments are the ones we get to share with family. ❤️

Read more about Joanne and Etta’s special sister connection below!

Joanne Tucker and her younger sister, Etta Legner, walk into the cafe in Blue Ridge Commons. As they sit, Etta gives an affectionate pat on big sister’s back.

Some stories deserve to be heard—and never forgotten.

We invite you to read the remarkable story of The Summit resident Ted Brenig, a Holocaust survivor whose life is a powerful testament to resilience, courage, and hope. His experiences remind us why it's so important to preserve history and ensure these stories continue to be shared with future generations.

Read Ted's inspiring story here:
