🍂 **Fall Allergies: It’s Not Just a Spring Problem!** 🐾

When we think about seasonal allergies, spring is usually the first season that comes to mind. But for many dogs and cats, **fall can bring just as many allergy triggers!**

As we head into the next couple of months, several plants and environmental allergens can contribute to that familiar itch, including:

🌿 **Ragweed** – one of the biggest fall allergy triggers
🌾 **Weeds and grasses** – many continue releasing pollen into early fall
🍂 **Mold spores** – falling leaves, damp soil, and decaying vegetation can create ideal conditions for mold
🌱 **Other late-season plants** – different weeds and plants can release pollen well into autumn

If your pet starts licking their paws, scratching, rubbing their face, or developing recurrent ear or skin irritation this fall, **seasonal allergies could be part of the picture.**

And remember—itching isn't always “just allergies.” There can be multiple factors contributing to your pet's skin health, which is why identifying the underlying triggers is so important.

💚 A little update from HVO! 💚

We’ve been a little quiet on social media lately, but there’s been a lot happening behind the scenes!

We’re excited to share that our team is growing! We’ve welcomed two amazing new team members—a Certified Veterinary Technician and a Veterinary Assistant—to help us continue providing the thoughtful, personalized care our patients and their families deserve. 🐾

We’re so excited to have them on board and look forward to sharing more about our growing team soon!

Surgery Schedule Update

Beginning next week, Mondays will once again be our dedicated surgery day for the remainder of this year and likely into the beginning of next year.

If your pet needs a dental procedure or surgery, appointments will be scheduled on Mondays.

Because our medical team prioritizes the care and monitoring of surgical patients throughout the day, we will be limiting wellness exams and technician appointments on Mondays whenever possible.

If you have a wellness or technician appointment already scheduled on a Monday, please be aware that there is a small possibility your appointment may need to be rescheduled if a surgery takes longer than expected. If that happens, our team will contact you as soon as possible to find another appointment time that works for you.

Meet Newton

We recently had the pleasure of seeing Newton for acupuncture treatments, and he quickly became a favorite around the clinic.

Newton currently lives at Latoya's Legacy Sanctuary in Pardeeville, Wisconsin, where he is safe and well cared for while he waits for the right adopter or foster to come along. Much of his story before arriving at the sanctuary remains a mystery. He was brought in by someone who did not know his background, and he was already missing his tail. It is believed that the injury that caused him to lose his tail also resulted in nerve damage, leaving him with urinary dysautonomia and unable to voluntarily urinate. Instead, his bladder empties while he sleeps.

Newton is also FIV positive, but that certainly doesn't slow him down. He is a wonderful eater, loves his wet food, enjoys lounging in a soft bed or cozy hidey hut, and could spend hours bird watching from a sunny windowsill. He uses his scratching post like a pro; he is polydactyl. He is a very good traveler in the car, and most importantly, he is a true lap cat who absolutely loves ear scratches and affection.

We're grateful to be a part of Newton's care through acupuncture treatments and thankful for the dedication of the team at LaToya's Legacy Sanctuary, who continue to go above and beyond for special cats like him and are committed to finding him the right home.

Newton is currently looking for an adopter or foster who can give this sweet boy the love and comfort he deserves. If you've been looking for a gentle companion with a big heart and an even bigger appreciation for lap time and ear scratches, Newton may be your guy.
