This is the kind of story that makes us love what we do.

Mike started seeing Dr. Leo at 68 because pain was getting in the way of working out and enjoying the things he loved.

Now he’s 70.
He’s down 50 pounds.
He’s working out consistently.
He plays pickleball 6 days a week, sometimes for 5–7 hours a day.

And in his words, he feels 40 🤩

What changed?

He finally got to a point where pain wasn’t running the show anymore.

Dr. Leo found the root cause of his pain, helped him understand what was going on, gave him a plan that actually made sense, and helped him build the confidence to move again without constantly worrying about getting hurt.

And once he could move better, everything else started to follow.

More activity.
More strength.
More confidence.
A completely different quality of life.

This is exactly why we care so much about helping people stay active as they get older.

The goal isn’t to tell you to slow down.

It’s to help your body keep up with the life you want to live.

70 years old and absolutely crushing it 🔥🎾

Your running assessment doesn’t actually start with running 👀

That’s the whole point.

In this BTS look with Dr. Bridget, we start by zooming out before we zoom in. Because what happens during your stride can be influenced by everything from your big toe and ankle mobility to your hip strength, calf capacity, balance, pelvic control, and trunk stability.

Then we take it to the treadmill 🏃‍♂️

Using slow-motion video from multiple angles, Dr. Bridget looks at cadence, foot strike, overstriding and braking, knee and hip mechanics, pelvic control, trunk position, step width, propulsion and more.

But we’re not searching for one “perfect” running form.

The real value is connecting what we see on video to what we found in the full-body assessment.

Pelvis dropping while you run? Is there a hip control deficit behind it? 🦵

Not getting much extension through your stride? Is mobility actually limiting you? ⛓️‍💥

A movement looks different? Is it something worth changing—or simply your normal? 🧬

That distinction matters.

At The Wellness Arena, we take a full-body approach so recommendations aren’t based on one screenshot of your stride. They’re based on you— your mobility, strength, mechanics, training and goals 💪

From there, we can build a plan with targeted strength or mobility work, training modifications, or gait retraining— and even make adjustments on the treadmill and immediately see how your body responds.

Because the goal isn’t to tell you everything that’s “wrong” with your running.

It’s to understand why you move the way you do— and help you run better from the ground up 🏃‍♀️💨

These assessments can be useful for runners dealing with a recurring injury, someone returning to running after an injury, or a healthy runner who wants to better understand their mechanics and identify potential areas to improve before they become a problem. You don’t have to be injured—or an elite runner—to benefit from one.

“I had been to 2 different PTs and never felt any relief.”

Cassie came to us feeling pretty defeated 😕

A soccer injury had turned into severe ankle tendinitis, plus pain she thought was sciatica. She had already tried two different PTs and still wasn’t getting relief.

At that point, she had started to believe this might just be her new normal.

For someone who loves being active, that’s a hard place to be.

When she started working with Dr. Leo, the focus was different from the start. Instead of just treating the painful areas or giving her another list of basic exercises, he took the time to figure out the exact root cause and what was actually driving the problem.

And that changed everything.

Cassie started feeling real progress. Not just temporary relief, but the kind of change that made her feel hopeful again 🙌

Now she’s back in the gym, getting stronger, moving better, and feeling more like herself 💪

That’s the part we love most.

Watching someone go from “I guess I just have to live with this” to realizing their body is capable of so much more 🙌💪

Let’s go Cassie!! We’re proud of you and pumped to keep building from here 💪

Wanna get out of pain as fast as possible? Keep reading ⏬️

Obviously getting out of pain is important. But getting out of pain and STAYING out of pain are two very different things 🎯

At The Wellness Arena, we’re not interested in temporarily turning down your symptoms just to have you end up in the exact same place a few months later.

We want to know WHY your body is hurting, what needs to change, and what needs to get stronger so you can get back to doing what you love without constantly worrying about your pain.

That’s why everything we do follows a specific 3 step process:

1️⃣ ANALYZE 🔎 — Find the WHY aka the ROOT CAUSE
We assess your body from head to toe because the site of pain is rarely ever the source of pain.

We look at how you move, where you’re restricted, and where your body is compensating. We find the exact root cause of your pain and give you a clear game plan to get out of pain and back to what you love.

No guessing. No cookie-cutter treatment plans.

2️⃣ REVITALIZE ⚡ — Get you out of pain as fast as possible.
Once we understand the problem, we focus on getting you out of pain asap and restoring movement using the tools your body actually needs— manual therapy, dry needling, laser, shockwave, mobility work, breathing exercises, and more.

⚠️ But this is where a lot of rehab stops ⚠️

Ours doesn’t 👀

Because feeling better is only valuable if we build on it 🙌

And then comes the fun part…

3️⃣ MAXIMIZE 💪 — Build a body that can handle MORE.
This is where we bridge the gap between “my pain is gone” and “I trust my body again.”

We progressively build strength, movement quality, and capacity so your body is prepared for the demands of your workouts, your sport, your job, and your life 💪

Because the goal of great physical therapy isn’t just to make pain disappear.

It’s to make your body more capable than it was before the pain started. 🔥

ANALYZE → REVITALIZE → MAXIMIZE

🔎 Find the WHY
⚡ Get you out of pain
💪 Build you back stronger

Don’t just get back to where you were. Get back and BETTER THAN EVER 💥

“Dr. Leo helped prepare me both physically and mentally to play at my best.”

This is what it’s all about! 🥹

Pattie came to us with a lingering hamstring issue, but what she really needed was to feel confident in her body again.

That’s something we care a lot about at The Wellness Arena.

Rehab isn’t just physical.

It’s helping someone understand what’s going on, giving them a customized and holistic plan, and making sure they feel prepared mentally as they get back to training, competing, and doing the things they love.

Dr. Leo worked with Pattie week after week to strengthen not only her hamstring, but also to improve the areas around it, and make sure she was strengthening the right areas she needed to perform her best.

By the end, Pattie wasn’t just feeling better physically.

She understood her body better.
She felt stronger.
She trusted herself more.

That’s the goal.

We don’t just want people to leave here with less pain.

We want them to leave feeling ready to crush it at whatever activity they love- whether it’s competing at an international level as a USA Masters Athlete or just simply getting back into the gym- we got you 💪🙌

Good work Pattie- we’re so proud of you! 💪🏑

🚨 TOP 5 things I’ve learned about BACK PAIN as a performance physical therapist…

And some might be the opposite of what you’ve been told… 👀

1️⃣ Your back is NOT “out of alignment”
Your spine is strong, adaptable, and designed to move. Feeling “off” doesn’t necessarily mean a bone needs to be put back into place. We need to figure out WHY you feel uneven, restricted, or painful in the first place.

2️⃣ More core + glute strengthening usually is NOT the answer
“Your core is weak” and “your glutes aren’t firing” have become the default explanation for everything 🙄 But research shows most people with lower back pain have overactive glutes and core muscles 🤔 If you’re already strong and STILL in pain, doing more core + glutes may be making you worse.

3️⃣ If you train at 100% intensity ALL the time, your body never gets a chance to adapt.
More isn’t always better. If every workout is max effort, you may continuously exceed what your body can recover from. What you physically can do vs. your body’s fatigue point is very different. Sometimes getting out of pain means temporarily modifying load, volume, intensity, or exercise selection… then progressively building back up 📈

4️⃣ Your pelvis needs to be part of the assessment.
Your pelvis interacts with your hips, spine, and ribcage every time you walk, squat, run, or workout. If nobody has looked at how your pelvis moves, rotates, and loads side to side, you’re missing a KEY piece of the puzzle 🧩

5️⃣ Your hamstrings may FEEL tight without needing more stretching.
This is a big one… more times than not, the hamstrings need strengthening, not stretching. That constant pulling or “tight” sensation doesn’t automatically mean they’re physically too short or “tight.” Most often, it’s related to how your pelvis and trunk are positioned in space—typically your body is shifted forward. Stretching harder usually provides only temporary relief… while worsening your back pain 🤯

The biggest takeaway?

Your back doesn’t exist in isolation. A good physical therapist should look at how your spine, pelvis, hips, ribcage AND the rest

Cheryl came to us already doing a lot of the “right” things

She had gone through traditional PT after two hip replacements. She stayed active. She kept showing up to Burn Boot Camp 💪

But she was still dealing with shoulder pain, hip pain, limited mobility, and that lingering question of…

“How much can my body actually handle now?”

At some point, she had started to believe that pain was just part of life if she wanted to keep working out.

We didn’t want that to be her normal. And we know it doesn’t have to be.

Working with Dr. Leo and Dr. Bridget, the focus was never just on one painful joint. They looked at how Cheryl moved as a whole, what was limiting her, and what needed to change so she could feel strong and confident again 🙌

And that’s exactly what started happening!

Her mobility improved.
Her strength improved.
Her form improved.

And most importantly, her confidence came back.

Now Cheryl can walk into Burn Boot Camp feeling like she belongs there— not worried about what she should avoid, but focused on what she can do.

That’s the kind of progress we care about.

Not just less pain.

More trust in your body.
More freedom to move.
More confidence to keep doing the things that make you feel like you 💪

Keep crushing it Cheryl, we are so proud of you!
